FRINGE being moved to Friday nights

Doesn't look promising. But I think Fringe will survive into a forth season. Afterall, Dollhouse was given a second chance. I can see Fringe getting one more shot -- especially considering it'll have three seasons in the bank, with the most recent having received the best reviews of the series thus far.

^^ Keep in mind that Fringe is owned by Warner Bros, rather than 20th Century Fox (the studio)...less incentive to keep it around unlike Fox owned Dollhouse, as all profits generated off network goes to WB.

The CW will take Fringe then and recast Walter with Justin Hartley so that he can take his shirt off every episode. Maybe replace Nina with Katie Cassidy. And alternate universe means Miley Cyrus sings Lady Gaga songs and people wear white after Labor Day.

The CW's gotta be pleased that Idol will be going up against the 18-34 demo heavy Vampire Diaries on Thursdays. Damn, Fox is gonna ride Idol untill it burns to death.

If it does get canned I won't miss it--if it doesn't get canned I'll still watch it if it continues to have an interesting mythology.

That said, I think FOX wants to unload it.

Americans suck for not having better taste. They have no one but themselves to blame when there is nothing on the air but WWE, Dancing with American Idol Skaters and lame CSI spinoffs.

While I won't necessarily disagree with that in general whether you talk about movies, tv, music etc I won't blame those who haven't faithfully stuck with Fringe.

It is an okay show but it still isn't a solidly good series--it just looks good compared to all the worse crap out there. On its own it has a lot of problems and I can definitely see why it hasn't attracted a large audience--pretty bland characters, stale plots of the week, a lot of very familiar I would argue recycled stories done better elsewhere.

Sure all those things suck but I don't think people should settle either for an uneven and flawed show just because it is slightly better than the rest of the tv landscape if they don't want to.

WTF?
Fringe is awesome. The characters are not bland. Especially this season with the whole walternate universe thing. I think its well written and overall a great show...Besides its awfully crowded on Thursday nights
So why is Friday a death night for Fringe and the BEst night for Caprica and SG-U?

:ack: :ack: :ack:

I am really enjoying the show, so I hope there's someone with pull who is interested in having more episodes for syndication. And there is probably a lot more mythology to explore, what with all they've set up, especially this season.

Then the writers should get to it. If there is so much ground to cover mythology-wise and the threat of cancellation looms over it you would think they would quit dragging stuff out and giving us so much uninteresting filler. Then people *might* actually become interested in it and stick with it on a regular basis. The one thing the show has going for it is the interesting mythology--why they fail to capitalize on it and make it the series is beyond me. I'd love a Season One Heroes or LOST S4 and S5 type heavily serialized tightly written urgent season long story arc driven by the mythology rather than the start-stop rhythm the show has been in all season where you get one nice strong episode, you get all excited for next week and BAM! a mediocre filler episode.

Really? Oh well to each their own...I think Olivia and Peter are not very compelling and I'm thankful the writers are treating their lacking romance as more of a plot point rather than a fully fledged and developed romance with more screentime devoted to it because it is a snooze.

Walter is interesting but one character doesn't make a good show. Astrid is alright but has very little to do. Nina rarely appears anymore. Broyles is pretty bland and the actors' portrayal certainly doesn't help. Te alternate characters--Olivia's alt boyfriend, burnt dude, goofy alt Charlie--meh.

The show's ratings are dropping to an unacceptably low level. If Fox is going to throw in the towel on Thursdays at nine, there surely are cheaper things to put in play. Also, a new show might do better. Therefore, Fox moving Fringe to Friday nights, where the ratings bar is lower, is the best one can hope for. I expect the show has a reasonable chance of keeping its audience. I think that it is pretty much guaranteed another season if it doesn't drop more. And the whole point of the move is to justify keeping such a low rated show which would otherwise be canceled. I think the real fans should be pleased. If I keep watching the series, I would tune in live on Fridays and there are probably other borderline fans who feel the same.

It's usually pretty obvious why shows lose audiences rapidly and get cancelled. (They're just plain bad.) Slow declines are the rule. The shows like NCIS or Big Bang Theory that actually increase ratings are the exception. This is partly self-fulfilling. (The desperate urge to kill the slow starter in favor of an instant hit is driven by market pressure, but as always, the assumption that the Market Knows Best is crazy.) The thing is, Fringe had its chance/i], unlike shows that had terrible time slots to start, and never got an audience to lose, either quickly or slowly. (Why some shows never get a large audience to even sample the series is really the most interesting question.)

The new mythology needs to fill in the millions of years since the First People. This suggests to me that it would be extraordinarily dull exposition. Even worse, it seems to me that Olivia Dunham's love life being the key moment in millions of years of plot is inflating a sexual ideal (she must be someone's, there's no explaining the character otherwise!) to Goodyear Blimp proportions.

Do not confuse yourself about Peter being a real character. Peter has not even thought about his mother. No real person would act like that, Peter is just a plot device. Walter is the only good character. But Fringe has always been horribly distorted by the Olivia character. Moving to Fridays won't change that.

A few things.........

1. The writers have stated they have a 5 year arc which means right now, they're telling the story at that pace. With this move, the best case scenario we can probably hope for is that Fringe's core audience will simply follow it to Friday and it will get one more Season and

2. At that point, they'll have to compress 2 seasons of stories into 1 and you'll get your wish.

3. Obviously taste is subjective to a large degree so one man's awesome is another's bleh at times. And, I won't argue that Season 1 had it's fair share of issues and bland characterizations, including Olivia. I also won't argue that there things that can be tweaked even in Season 3. However, this show is just like ST:TNG in that the first year was sort of painful with just a few bright spots......the second season was an improvement and in Fringe's case, the last half of Season 2 was a definite improvement over the first part.

However, even with a few of it's issues left, Fringe this season has been TNG Season 3 excellent by all accounts. That's not to say it's perfect and I'll agree that a couple of the characters could use some of the drugs that Walter's taking, but it's still very good, very intelligent television with a strong story to drive it. So, seriously now, how many TV Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Genre shows can you name me that are as intelligently written with a long term arc based story that's as good as Fringe?

I'll grant you Walking Dead. So far, so excellent.
However, that's the only show I can think of that's anywhere near as good as Fringe is right now.

I was really suprised when I saw this. I had thought that Fringe was doing well in the ratings, but apparently not.
