This is really a strange idea. Because Fresh Prince is 90s pure.

I'd be surprised if this version is in any way a comedy. If they're bothering to reboot something like this, I suspect they will play it straight and effectively nuBSG-ize it.

This isn't new. Just they replaced "Nearly identical premise with a different name" with "Nearly identical premise with the same name". Hollywood has been reusing ideas forever. Only change is that they learned they can get a bigger audience by giving it the same name instead of a different name.

And an even bigger audience (at least initially) if they can get Will Smith involved in any way.
He'll probably end up as "executive producer" and have next to nothing to do with the series itself. Just name recognition: "hi, my name is Will Smith and I approve of this show".
