Fresh Food

My dad does the grocery shopping in my family. He usually goes to an Asian supermarket, which doesn't necessarily have fresh food per se, but it's cheaper. Occasionally, we go to the farmers market on weekends. As for me, I started to eat more veggies in recent months. I go to this fresh salad buffet place near my office, and I'm feeling a lot healthier. Everything in there is fresh and not the kind of refrigerated salad you'd get elsewhere.

There is absolutely nothing that beats fresh ingredients. Every so often, my wife brings home a box of Hamburger Helper or "Rice Sides" or some other pre-packaged garbage, and I'm tempted to divorce her on the spot.

It's what that stuff does to my lower GI tract that makes my wife want to divorce me.

When my father was put on a restricted diet 2 years ago, I took over all the cooking in the house-- as I'm the only one with any, albeit slim, culinary training. All I heard for a week+ was how the food didn't taste right, it didn't look right, and I told him "Cause it's fresh you jack ass, there's no preservatives, no added salt, no "can" taste, it's just fresh food."

The man-- who grew up on a farm and didn't eat prepackaged till he got married-- had actually fraking forgot what real, fresh, food tasted like. If it didn't taste prepackaged, it didn't taste "right" to him.

I've got the same issue with my mother, she's gotten so used to "ready to eat" prepackaged food, that she can't stand the site of raw meat or doesn't like the taste of fresh food. If I cook hamburgers, if she sees me handling the raw meat, she'll leave and go buy a burger at McDonalds cause "they tasted like hamburgers".
