I don't really know, but I would guess that the problem was that "Darth Vader" doesn't sound as menacing in French as it does in English. If you pronounce it the way it's spelled, it could come out sounding like "Dart Va-day." "Dark Vador" actually sounds closer to the original.

Well, even in real life, names and places sometimes get changed in various languages. Kings and evangelists are good examples of that happening. I don't really see what the big deal is.

Nonsense, it happens all the time, often the other way around - The recent version of Tintin did not feature Milou or Dupont et Dupond.

Anyway it's not the only place it's happened, in Italy, he's known as Dart Fener.

Acccorging to the link I posted, some people surmise it is a marshmellow creme sauce.....
