Fox orders more 'Fringe'

^ditto. As long as it's well made and entertaining I've got no problem with rip-offs. Alot of great art was made by copying previous masters.

Besides. I think they have a great set of regular characters. I enjoyed some of the X-Files but I never really cared for Mulder or Scully. The mythology stuff really became a parody of itself in the latter seasons.

If they work it right I think it's possible for Fringe to be better than its predecessor - the student surpassing the teacher, if you will.

It still feels like an X-Files rip off...:shifty:

Yep.

There's no denying, so I just go with it.
I'm enjoying the characters more than the "mysteries."

My problem is that the characters seem too forced. The Bald Guy is trying way too hard to be odd/creepy, to the point where it's almost laughable.

Plus, and this is unfair to the shows that come after The X-Files, The X-Files burned many of us by stringing us along for years with threads that ultimately went nowhere.

So now, when I watch any kind of show that has a continuously building mythos/mystery, I am overly skeptical and jaded, thinking, "This better fucking go somewhere or I'm going to be pissed."

On the one hand, it's unfair to bring that X-Files baggage over to shows like Fringe and Lost.

On the other hand, it should serve as a wake up call to future shows to not string us along without a plan or a payoff.

^to some extent I have just learned to stop worrying and love the bomb. Yeah, Lost has given us the shaft in some respects as to open ended story direction but on the whole it is that whole "what-the-hell-is-going-on?" feeling that i like about it - it's not exactly predictable or resolved in a nice tidy package after an hour or two parter. I'm just into enjoying the ride - after all it's just entertainment anyway.

I think the problem today is that there are so many good shows to choose from. Just a few years ago, we had only a handful of genre shows, so even if one show was just average, we gave it a little extra credit because it was all we had.

Nowadays, there are so many good choices that we can barely fit them all into our schedule. It sets the bar higher for each show, at least in my mind. If I've got five other great shows on my Tivo, plus DVDs, etc., I want each show to convince me that it's really worth my time.

I'm just into enjoying the ride - after all it's just entertainment anyway.

And that's up to each individual, on a case-by-case basis. I'm glad people are enjoying it. It seems a little cliche and dry to me, but I'm still hanging in there and hoping to get hooked.
