Well as it's a little under an hour until the the 4th of July starts (UTC). I guess I should say to our American cousins enjoy your day.

I know of no holiday called the "Fourth of July."

I do know of one called "Independence Day" that happens to fall on the 4th of July but in honor of what the holiday means should never be called that.

Happy 4th of July, Happy Independence Day, and Happy Birthday to my husband! :D

I'm not into fireworks or anything like that. After I get off work, I am going to have dinner with my parents but that will be it. I have totally lost interest in all incendiary 4th of July activities. I must be getting old.

Oh, and Ronan Tynan is the definitive singer of "God Bless America".

Happy 4th of July.

Well, it's not like we tell people "Merry Twenty-Fifth of December! and have a Happy First of January!"

Hey, everyone, have good Fourth Thursday in November!

No, but we do say things like "Have a good Forth of July!"

Well, not me. I try to always say "Happy Independence Day" as that's what the holiday is and it means that much to me. Make no sense to parse it down to its date anymore than it would for any other holiday.

That's fine. Have a Happy Independence Day, Trekker. :)

Trekker, personally I find that overly pathetic and serious.

You're welcome to call it Independence Day but you'll excuse me if I don't feel like I'm disrespecting America (AMERICA!!!!) by calling it 4th of July.

Also: Happy holiday, Kestra. ;)

And you, and everyone else, have a Happy Independence Day as well. Except those in Brittan where they can have a "Happy We Kicked Your Butts and Got Out From Under Your Rule Day." ;)

Happy Fourth Day of the Seventh Month of the Year Assuming You Abide by the Gregorian Calendar, everyone! :D

Actually, it's not unusual for nations to refer to their independence, liberation, revolutionary, or other national days colloquially by the date. For example, Argentina with Veinticinco de Mayo celebrating the removal of the Spanish viceroy and his replacement by their first local government during the May Revolution. They even name their ships using the date (as do many other nations with their respective holidays).

It's nice of you to be (incorrectly) pedantic and rude to someone who was politely wishing us a happy holiday, btw. Well done.

Nope, that doesn't scan, metrically, and doesn't rhyme.

Do you also refer only to the "Independence Day Weekend"?

So far the holiday is preventing me from sleeping because people keep blowing up fireworks outside my window. Bah humbug.

Huntington Beach has lifted its 1987 ban on the use and sale of fireworks here for a two-year trial period (if we don't burn down half the city it can be extended longer, I presume), so people have been going nuts setting off fireworks all week and late into the night. There are usually scattered illegal fireworks going off anyway around the holiday, but this is a whole new level.

Fireworks have been illegal in Illinois for as long as I have been alive. I don't know how people get away with it every year.
