Just wanted to drop a post here about Wondercon in Anaheim, Ca. The convention is in SoCal for the first time because of work being done in the San Francisco convention arena and they are expecting large crowds this time around.
Also interesting to note, Anaheim is heavily rumored to be the "back up" location for the San Diego Comic Con if they ever decide to move it out of SD because of the lack of space. This may very well be a dry run for a future relocation of the big show.
In any case, I hope that those who are serious about being comic book writers/producers show up at this convention. If you live in the SoCal region, I would hope that you would come. WonderCon is much more comic book-based than Comic Con and there's so much programming for aspiring writing talent that you would be a fool to miss it.
I'm doing two panels on Friday the 16th for writers and I would love to see some of you there. First, here's the link to programming for WonderCon for Friday (you can find the other two days on the site):

My two panels are:
1:30-2:30 Pitching Diversity— You made it through the iron gates to pitch your project. When do you bring up the diversity of your characters? Forcefully at the outset, scribbled on a well-hidden Post-It note, or in a closing utterance as you flee out the door? How do diverse actors pitch themselves for all roles? Widelantern.com delves into this topic as its writer Ken Choy moderates a roundtable discussion with Brandon Easton (Shadowlaw, Thundercats), Randall Park (Supah Ninjas), Teresa Huang (Knight Rider remake), Charles Howard (Producers Guild of America Diversity Committee), Adam Wolman (Widelantern co-founder; creative consultant), and Frank Gonzalez (director, talent development and diversity, Disney/ABC Television Group). Room 208
4:30-5:30 The Writer's Journey: Breaking into Comic Book and Hollywood Scriptwriting— Every aspiring writer wants to know one thing: "How do I break into the business?" If you are an unpublished writer with dreams of making it in the transmedia marketplace and you don't know how or where to begin, this is the panel for you. Hollywood screenwriters and graphic novel producers Brandon M. Easton (Warner Bros. Animation's ThunderCats), Geoffrey Thorne (TNT's Leverage), Keto Shimizu (Syfy's Being Human), and Jonathan Callan (Generator Rex) share insider information, publishing secrets, and the professional realities on how to develop your ideas into a viable comics proposal. Topics include how to hire artists and build a strong contract, how to seek out a publisher, and how to navigate the tough new world of intellectual property management in the digital frontier. Room 211
Then at 5pm, I believe legendary comic book writer Marv Wolfman will be talking about the craft of comics and animation scripting.
And that's just Friday. There's a TON of stuff for writers during this show. Please try to make it if you can.
Personally, I believe this is a "can't miss" show for writers.
