For those who hate this film already take solace in the fact that.....

Re: For those who hate this film already take solace in the fact that.

As one poster pointed out. We're supposedly fans of a series that promotes optimism and openness to the future.

I've always felt that's a load of BS, personally. That "openness" evaporates pretty damn quickly around here, as the "hardcore fans" in this forum have demonstrated. Just try going into Misc and starting a thread about how much you like using your Mac - you won't see much Star Trek-like "openness" then. ;)

I'll just step out of the "Hardcore" ring if it's nothing but a bunch of whining.

I don't mind them not liking the movie based on what they've seen, but the vehemence with which they declare everyone else wrong is sickening.

Yeah. Plus go over to the TNZ board. Trek fans are anything but optimists and open.

As long as it's not that animated show they started developing a couple of years ago. I'd rather see something on the Romulan War or certainly something before the 25th Century.
I actually liked what I saw and read about it.

I think both sides have done that recently in other threads. Perhaps we should start setting a positive example by getting along with each other. Maybe then the mainstream will take Trek fans seriously. :vulcan:

I'm a PC ;)

But is all cool.

Don't hold your breath. ;)

For sure, not as long as we're acting like this they won't.
Also I can imagine alot of people seeing it and liking it then
finding out the "Hardcore non-fans" didn't like it and them going; "Wtf?"

Re: For those who hate this film already take solace in the fact that.

.....this new series of films will probably go 3 films max. I for one am very excited about it but I also realize that it probably wont go further than 3 films and it definitely will not be going to tv as a series.

Im seeing this film as just another part of the whole trek continuity. Yes visual continuity has been thrown out the window but so what. Superman Returns was a continuation of the Reeves story but with updated actors and set in a different time. BUT the backstory was the same.(culled from the first 2 superman movies) Yes SR wasnt a great film but the setting and actors had nothing to do with it. It was the story itself.

Thats how Im thinking of this film. Same continuity just different sets and actors to tell the story. No big deal.

So take solace hardcorers. These few films will be a very small chunk of the Trek universe and you shouldnt let it get your panties in a bunch.

I hope you're wrong.

As much as I'd have preferred them to keep pretty much the whole look of the original, varying only to the degree the uniforms have (okay...so the panels on the bridge might have different buttons, with digital rather than analog displays, at least the bridge could be ROUND instead of the apparent OVAL shape used in this film and there could be a RED railing), I'm looking forward to them actually doing some TV based on this movie.

I'd LOVE another weekly series with Kirk and Spock in the TOS era. Even a mini-series.

Maybe they'd have to change the cast again (movies to TV usually use a different cast), but that'd be okay if the new actors do it right.

Three theatrical movies ain't enough.

I hope you're wrong.

Re: For those who hate this film already take solace in the fact that.

My bet: three films at least, and a TV series, possibly not with the TOS characters, tho. The characters will be from the same time, and one or two will appear in one of the later movies before the series launch...

No no no!

Must be Kirk and Spock!

All interesting new characters introduced in the films must be in red shirts and DIE before making it to TV!!!

I really just dont see it much beyond that. They couldnt really get to far into the 5 year mission without continuity being thrown out completly. Defintiely not another series with the TOS crew. I dont think fans could take another recast. Now I could possibly see a series with a different crew. I would love that set in the TOS time period with updated visual.

Now that would rock. Continue the movie series as long as it works.
But I have always thought it would be neat to see a series set in the
TOS time period on another ship. There's plenty of the stories of other
crews out there and plenty of Galaxy to go 'round. ;)

We optimistic and Mac-using "old Star Trek fans" don't bother tempting fate. Nothing in TNZ for me. ;)
