Fly Birdie..Fly

Sometimes TV shows fly, sometimes they crash and burn. Some don't even make it past 13 episodes, or a year or two. What is a TV show that you liked a lot, but for whatever reason, it got the axe too early. Try to keep your answers to shows that didn't get past two seasons....(meaning TOS does not apply!!!)

I am going with the very awesome HOW THE WEST WAS WON/MaCahan western of the last 70s. James Arness, fresh from Gunsmoke, starred as Zeb Macahan. It was probably one of the first seralized shows I ever watched and it was great...great plots, great scenery, and a great family of characters...

We've had these threads before, but I guess it's about time to rekindle the cancellation rage:devil:

Twin Peaks - I've been talking about this in one or two other threads lately. This may have been doomed from the start. It's always seemed to me that ABC had no idea what this show was, and had they known they never would've allowed it even the low number of episodes it got. The first 16 episodes are phenomonal. At that point, the creators left and the show quickly lost quality and viewers. When Lynch and Frost came back 7 or 8 episodes later, the show rebounded in quality, but it was too late to be saved from the axe. The last few hours leave me with some huge questions and certain that a third season had great promise.

Firefly - this is one that will be mentioned by half the board, and currently has a thread running about it's cancellation, so I'll let it speak for itself.

EDIT: Also The Tick and Andy Richter Controls the Universe. I aso kinda dug Brisco County Jr.

I still miss the '90s revival of Dark Shadows a lot. It was so well done with lots of familiar elements but some of the stories that were starting seemed to be taking a different road from the original show. Most of the casting was excellent and even the ones not to my taste were well played, just different takes on the characters...or portraying facets of the characters that were over my head when I was a tween.

Another vote for the new "Dark Shadows". Also "American Gothic" and "The Adventures of Brisco County jr." I damn near stopped watching TV when "Brisco" went down.

"Christy", which was based on one of my favorite novels of all-time, got canceled FAR too soon. It only got 19 episodes, so it didn't even get an entire season.

And unfortunately, when they finally got around to making the TV movies to wrap up the HUGE cliffhanger the series ended on, only one of the main actors came back for it.

Another show I really liked was "Twice In A Lifetime." It only lasted two seasons. The lead character changed for the second season, and they made his backstory a huge deal, but they never resolved any of it by the time the series ended. I've always wanted them to do a TV movie to wrap things up, but now that there is no more PAX, I dunno if that'll ever happen.

Boomtown (I never even got to see the handful of retooled crappy season 2 episodes!)
Brimstone
Eyes
The Fugitive (Tim Daly version) (how can you end season one on a major cliffhanger if you don't know about season two?)
Journeyman
Moonlight

I thought Galatica 1980 was a great show. If they had let the show develope more, I am sure it would have been even better than it was...
