Flight of the Conchords

I just finished the first season of this show. For those unaware it's an HBO comedy about this lame New Zealand folk rock pair who have the most pathetic career imaginable. Every episode usually has two surreal songs/music videos.

The funniest thing about the show, aside from the hilariously weird and goofy songs/videos, is the understated deadpan the three main characters have. They never raise their voices or get angry no matter how insane the situation gets.

While I wasn't very crazy about the show at first, by midseason I absolutely loved it. There was this one episode where David Bowie appears to Bret in his dreams (it's Jerome doing a hilarious dead on impersonation) in a variety of his insane costumes over the years, and then they do a song where both of them do their Bowie impersonation. In the same episode there's also a song by Jermaine about how "Bret you've got it goin ONNNNNN" and about how one time on tour he put a wig on him and cuddled with him while he was asleep. :D Those lines have been stuck in my head all week!

For Daily Show fans there's a lot of crossover. Kristen Shaal (the new occaisonal female correspondant with curly short red hair) is a regular on this show. John Hodgeman and Demetri Martin appear in episodes. I think there were a couple others too.

I watched the pilot and wasn't very interested, but I might be wiling to give a couple more episodes a shot if I have the time.

Love the show. I only heard about it after a radio station here started to play "Most Beautiful Girl in the Room" a few weeks before the show started to air on free-to-air. Really liked the song so I loved them up on youtube and watched some of their stuff there and then watched the first episode when it aired. Loved the first episode and I watched most of the season and then got the DVD of the show.

The pilot wasn't very good. If you could see one episode watch "Bowie" or the one about racism which I think was right after it.

I think this is a bloody great show, if you've never heard it you need to check out the original BBC Radio show.
