While Quasar's comment was a bit of a broad generalization, your response hasn't really helped. What he said at least had a touch of truth about it — the effect of video games, MTV, and classic Sesame Street on attention span has long been a matter of debate in both academic and nonacademic circles — whereas your 'analogous response' was not so much analogous as it was nonsensical.wow. all i did was state my opinion and made a pun.BOTH are great films -- in the same way ALIEN and ALIENS are both great films. They are different kinds of films -- one cerebral, the other more straight up action adventure (I am talking about both the first two Trek films AND the first two ALIEN films).
I wouldn't expect someone weened on computer games to be able to sit still for ST:TMP though...the attention span can't handle it.
And that's a sad commentary.i dont know it would prompt such a harsh reaction.
i figure this is an analogous response: i wouldn't expect a virgin to sit through ST:TWOK though...he would be too busy fantasizing about khan's breasts.
im also not sure what more sad. someones opinion on a movie, or some guy who doesnt agree that insults him beyond the veil of a computer screen...
Yes, and I might add my comment about video game attention spans was -- obviously, since I do not know you -- NOT aimed at you. But, apparently, I struck a nerve there...wow.
Biggles understands where I was coming from with my comment.
But, it is true -- it's a matter of personal taste.
I happen to love ST:TMP AND STII:TWOK. And so, it's understandable that I would come to the defense of ST:TMP given that. It's not personal towards you...I just think the film gets a bad rap...and often from those who have not seen the director's cut.
Your assumptions about my sexuality are pretty absurd considering I am married with children and have been for double digits now. And to be quite honest, I have plenty of days where I long for the parents basement for some peace and quiet. How about you? So, see...while I was not directing my comment about attention spans towards you -- you jumped off the deep end with your ridiculous assumptions.
I was wondering where all the belligerence came from over in the thread about the Star Trek V thread and was surprised to see your overreaction here.
Anyway, with regard to TMP's "Plodding pace", it's a lot less "plodding" in the director's cut -- which is the version I prefer.
Can we bury the hatchet? I have no beef with you, Rick.
