First Star Trek Episode of Your Lifetime

I was 5 years old when "The Man Trap" aired, but I'm pretty sure my family was watching something like Gomer Pyle or My Three Sons instead of Trek. The first Trek I ever watched was TAS on Saturday mornings, and the first live-action Trek I saw was TOS in after-school reruns in the mid-70s.

The Man Trap, in color, on September 8, 1966, it aired on channel 24 out of Fresno, CA. I was 9, we were the first in the neighborhood to have an RCA color TV. My dad who was red-green colorblind bought it in 1962. I learned from the age of 5 how to fix the tint and color controls after my dad adjusted the color of the grass on football and baseball games that he and my older brother would watch either to purple, or blue.

But movies preceded it, and it drives me crazy I don't know for sure which one. TVH is the earliest Trek movie that I know I saw for sure (and I also saw TFF and TUC before any TNG), but TSFS may have been the actual first.

But unfortunately there were no adults around who realized it would be an important question when I first encountered Star Trek, so no one logged the information at the time, and the question of when I first saw TSFS is now lost to history.

Look at all you youngsters here! I was born in March 1966, so the September 8th premiere air date for season 1 “The Man Trap” would be my answer.

Mom and Dad were NOT into it. I have memories beginning around age 2 1/2 years old, so I would have remembered seeing if had been playing on our TV. Guess they watched My Three Sons or whatever was on PBS. I do have very clear memories of them watching The Forsyte Saga (1967) and The Prisoner (1967) on PBS and also Laugh-In, Wild Wild West, and Sonny & Cher in 1968.

Such a missed opportunity !

I began watching the afternoon reruns in 1974.
