Finished Watching DS9 for the first time.

Just finished the finale and...wow.

I'm kinda sad, knowing that this is it. I LOVED this show, moreso than TNG, which I liked. And almost as much as TOS, which I grew up with. Maybe as much, but in a different way.

My conclusions so far:

1. Garak rocks. I love Garak. What a great evolution of a character!

2. I actually didn't mind the Ferengi as much as I thought I was going to, especially Quark.

3. Ezri Dax was a little bit of a let-down, and the Ezri/Julian pairing I found one of the least believable. But she was hawt, anyway.

4. I actually got teary-eyed with some of the last episodes. Particularly re Worf and Kira and Odo. Geez, I'm a softy.

5. A little Vic goes a long way. But at least the 'broken holodeck' episodes of DS9 didn't get nearly as tiresome as they did on TNG.

I loved this show! I am so going to start reading the relaunch novels.

Now onto watching Voyager.

So far: not so good.

I'd still call DS9 my favourite of the five treks. I just wish it was more popular with the casual viewers. Everyone I know has heard of TOS and TNG, but DS9 gets cast aside along with VOY and ENT as poor follow-ups to those two shows.

My only disappointment with season seven is Ezri. She was an unnecessary addition to the series. Maybe one episode with Nicole DeBoer as a guest star would have been a better idea because all the Worf/Jadzia/Ezri issues could have been focused into a single story.

It's also important to consider that DS9 was already +1 main character when Worf joined, not to mention the healthy array of recurring characters. Maybe if Ezri wasn't around, we might have had more time for Jake. He was absent for most of season seven.

I think because DS9 was so character-driven, she stuck out more than she might have on another series. We had gotten to know the others so well, that having someone entirely new just distracted. And then to force her into two pairings in the season (though the bit with Worf was satisfying in a some-one-night-stands-don't-always-end-in-marriage sort of way.)

And I agree, I wished to see more Jake. he was just a great character, and I loved how it just wasn't a given that he'd join Starfleet, etc. He was the anti-Wesley.

I'm hoping once Voyager ends its run on Spike TV, they will air DS9 from the beginning. After reading the Relaunch books (which are really good) I wanted to watch DS9 from the beiginning again. I know I can get them on DVD, but money issues.

And yes, Garak does rock!

Yes DS9 is amazing and those 2 points you made are ones that I thought too. When I first started the series and I saw Ferengi in it I was like..oh this is going to be annoying and dumb, but Quark really grows on you.

Also Garak is an excellent character. DS9 was great with character development you really got in to the psyche of all of the characters. I also loved Dukat, one of the best villians in Star Trek in my opinion, he was so debatable at times which I loved, you never knew what you were going to get.

This irritates me so much, I find most people who claim they hate DS9 haven't watched it in it's entirety or just dismiss it because they don't like the idea of it being on a space station. Blech. Their loss. Anyone I've recommended to watch it has loved it. I miss it so much now, it's been about a year since I finished re-watching it and I want to see it all again.

Yeah, the famous "TNG ratings were high and then they went downwards with DS9." :vulcan: Well, if it is all about the ratings, let's not forget that TOS was cancelled. It didn't even get the 4th season like ENT, so by that logic, it should be the worst of the Treks.

So glad you enjoyed DS9 so much! It's always fun to read the comments of new fans.

And I wouldn't worry one bit about the DS9 haters. We all know that most of them haven't seen more than a handful of episodes, at most. It's just silly to pay them any mind at all. ;)

As a fan who got into the show because of Classic Trek, I never thought I'd enjoy a series as much as I did the first. But DS9 came within a whisker of it, and that is really saying something.

Glad you enjoyed the show. I don't know anyone who's seen it and not loved it. A true classic in every sense of the word.

I've been kinda wrapped into B5 and Farscape lately that I really haven't watched any Trek, and DS9 is one I probably haven't seen the longest. Still though, I'm glad the DVDs are there whenever I want to watch, and while it's tied as my favorite trek with TNG, it's worth every cent I paid to own. I just love 90s trek, and I'm happy I have pretty much all of it.

Now you gotta read the relaunch novels. Those are pretty goo too, at least the ones I've read, I'm about 5 or 6 behind myself.

One thing though, what does "hawt" mean?

I really like DS9...more than I ever thought I would. I was one of those people who dismissed it because it was set on a space station :alienblush:

However I think the writing is much better than TNG generally, as it focuses on exploring the characters and their lives as part of this swirling science fiction background. Rather than *insert stirring speech by morally correct captain here* which occured more on TNG, although of course I love TNG as well :)

Just for slightly different reasons.
