Finding maemo - need help!

For the last few days I've been researching something called maemo. Which I gather doesn't rhyme with Nemo, though to looks like it should. It's a version of linux used in mobile (and don't get me into what linux rhymes with!)

And then I thought... I bet there are people on TBBS who know about this. There are, aren't there? There are people on TBBS who know about everything.

So... at it's simplest, what do I need to know? How easy to use is this thing? How easy will it be to install the countless apps that the community assure me will be forthcoming?

Should I be excited and interested, or very very scared and retreating into nice safe symbian?

You could always Google it like I did. My guess is it's pronounced "MY-mo".

Yes, thanks. I'd done all that. Even registered an account a www.maemo.org. What I was hoping was that TBBS, hub of the universe that it is, would count among its number an expert in the subject who would be willing to answer the sort of stupid questions asked by a bear of very little brain - hopefully with plenty of patience.

Apparently the answer to that is 'no'. I know at least as much as you guys already. Hey ho - back to maemo.org.

Ah, apologies. Should have realised you'd do all that first.

Yeah, I'd done all that. In fact, right now it looks like I'm the nearest thing to an 'expert in maemo' that TrekBBS canboast, which is kind of worrying!

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm always looking for new places I haven't found to answer my questions. I'm about to invest a heck of a lot of money in a New Toy and the choice between a satio and a n900 is killing me!
