It fairly well sums up Starscape's approach to the October challenge - Trek if it had been produced at a different time or in a different country. One of the myriad "alternate universes" where everyone has a beard, even the women, and the Klingons speak Tagalog. :klingon:

Now, imagine the strange new worlds and new civilizations, as envisioned by a strange new Roddenberry, lost in time and space ... if only he'd had Google Earth ...

For the next two days, it's up to you to vote with your remote for the Trek not taken!

Tough choice this month! All very good entries, but I had to go with neoworx's Air Trek.

Neoworks' is my choice too. Although all of them are very competent works, his embodies the spirit of the contest the most.

I see how it is, I go out of town and miss the entry, :) no biggie. Starscape got my vote.
Just edged out neoworx, because I like teaser posters.

^ I was just going to post that I thought yours was forgotten. Which is too bad, since I think I would have voted for it.

neoworx got it, though.

Oh, man, sorry about that, Adam! I looked back through the threads and didn't see yours.

I hear write-in votes are all the rage these days ... :wtf:

I agree - this one was really tough to choose from! It was a challenge to weigh concept against execution - my favorite, artistically, was Starscape's, for its elegance and bold design. But without going back and reading the thread, I have no idea what it's about, unfortunately.

I really like The Lensman's technique, but the characters are somewhat static - I don't get a sense of adventure from it; it's a damn cool poster, though ;).

Say what you want about the Nazis, and every bit of it deserved, but they had a graphic presence that was clearly designed, not just something they happened upon, and Capt. Robert April's poster had the makings of a classic propaganda poster, but it's too cluttered and the best graphic elements are lost in a flat composition and covered by text; I'd love to get my hands on the pieces and rearrange the poster ... (and, parenthetically, I wonder what the ship would look like if its numbers were NSS-1701, in the correct typeface; there's a ton of potential here!)

Klaus's entry is a nice take on the periodicals of the era, but it's too clean; it would have been interesting if a filter had been used to make it look like an engraving rather than a photograph.

Ultimately, I voted for neoworx - it's a great idea, has a great style, and has nothing to do with the fact that my first thought was something from the 1930s ;). I especially like the insets of the secondary characters - it's got a very comic book-movie poster feel to it. Nicely done!

Add another for Neoworx. His approach is just spot on, and I love "The Rocketeer" based costumes. Plus it has an airship and airships are cool! I'd love to see a couple more poster's set in this universe!

I'm just gonna ahead and congratulate Neoworx on his win! :techman::techman::techman:

Great job and I look forward to seeing this months contest!

Thanks for the critique Ptrope, I really miss the days when just about everyone would give input about more than the one they voted for. It some cases the information was helpful with future projects. I think you captured my thoughts about everyone's projects pretty well.

As for my own, the figures are a bit static.....but if you look at some of Fairbanks posters, especially in the later years, (or other large stars of the day) it's fairly accurate. Back then, stars as big as Fairbanks, Chaplin or Pickford were THE selling point....and many of their posters had just them in publicity style poses. Look at Fairbanks poster for "Don Q" or Chaplin's for "Modern Times". I also realized that doing a poster that was fairly accurate to how the posters ACTUALLY were, as opposed to what people now THINK they were wasn't going to do me any favors. In fact I'm surprised I got the one vote I did! :) (thanks whoever you are for your kind charity!)

And thanks for your kind words as well!

And what happened to your "Star Trek: 1920" idea? I was worried and intrigued when I read that...worried because as a huge Silent Film fan, I already knew what I wanted to do.....and intrigued because I wanted to see your take on the 20's era.

Congratulations, neoworx, on a job well done! Time to launch the Airship Enterprise and take a victory lap around the aerodrome :). And once you set back down, you have earned the honor and privilege of establishing the November Challenge - hope you've had your brain-booster connected and cranked up :).

Thanks, everyone, for entering, and for voting - it was a good crop of great ideas - maybe we'll even see some of them expanded upon ;).

Congratulations on the win, Neoworx. And well done to everyone else it was a very strong set of entries this month.
:bolian:

Thanks, once again, to Ptrope for sorting out the voting thread! :mallory:

Hey, cool! Thanks very much for the honor. Kudos to all the entrants – well done.

Sorry, but I'm not sure how this works. Do I post my Challenge idea here, or what?

And btw, I admit to shamelessly borrowing from Star Wars, The Rocketeer and Indiana Jones. If you're gonna steal, steal from the best.

Thanks again.

:D

All you need to do is come up with your idea, create a new thread with an appropriate title, letting folks know it's the November challenge (you can always refer back to the previous ones, of course, to see how it's done ;) ), and I'll stick it to the top of the forum for the duration.

Congratulations, and good luck! We eagerly await your inspiration :bolian:.
