Films/TV with southern heroes/honor

Jimmy Bob

Been watching Hell on Wheels and I've become fascinated by this concept of southern culture of honor and southern heroes. What other movies or tv shows could I see this southern honor in?

Don't always have to be a heroic portrayal, I'm just fascinated by the concept in general.

The Undefeated with Rock Hudson as a Confederate officer ( and John Wayne as Union officer) was the first thing that popped into my mind.

You can go as far back as Birth of A Nation. It was the first film screened for a president of the United States

I don't find Southern honor to be racist bullshit. Which is what she is saying. Just because something originated in the south does not make it racist.

I agree. The Southern culture of honor has nothing to do with racism. Rather, it addresses what it considers to be proper conduct, the behavior of ladies and gentlemen, and ways of avoiding and resolving disputes. My family is from North Carolina and Kentucky, so I can claim only limited personal experience with the culture. But I do understand that it's rather opaque to outsiders, and most people outside the South know it only from parodies, film, and TV.
