Well, first of all, get him to a vet ASAP. Cats mask their pain--it's a survival instinct-- so he may seem normal but could be very ill. Unexplained weight loss is a very big deal. It could be dental infections, kidney disease, diabetes, ANYTHING.
Seriously, don't wait. Get him seen right away. Better safe than sorry.
