Federation Members

Shim

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
One of my favourite trek activities has always been compiling a list of Federation members... For those of you who've seen the movie, any new Aliens who appear to be UFP members?

Any old semi-canon or non-canon Aliens who I can now add to my list?

There are never before seen aliens in the academy that we can assume are Federation members, but they are not identified by name.

Damn - guess I'll just have to wait for the production notes like those for all the crazy ones in TVH. Was hoping there might be some "old" ones too - a Bolian, Caitian or, my personal favourite, a Bzzit Khaht.

The only familiar aliens seen in the movie (that I can remember) were Vulcans, Romulans and Orions.

I would have loved a few more familiar species as background characters, too. I don't think a few Andorians, Tellarites, Bolians or Trill at the academy would have distracted new audiences too much.

I concur - and I was really hoping for some significantly non-human presence onscreen.

If there's one thing that's always irked me about Trek it's the overwhelming human-ness of Starfleet - it just makes no sense to have 99% human crews. Oh well. Next time, maybe.

I wouldn't mind betting that there hasn't been much thought put into the background aliens this time around - beyond what they look like of course.

By the Picard era, we know there were 150 member worlds not counting their colonies and protectorates. And in 2161 when the Federation Charter was signed there were already 18 worlds present at the ceremony.

If you're aware of any members not listed here, you should add them.

In a wide shot of the Academy cadets where Spock is briefing them on training, I could swear there's a Xindi-Reptillian cadet in the crowd close to the camera.

It's just my own nerdy list - there's nothing new - I just like avoiding arguments like "Is Trill a member?" and having what I believe it is.

I concur re the Xindi-looking cadet. Pretty sure I saw a lonely Tellarite, too which I loved, and some blue-skinned, white-haired man that could have been an Andorian. That's what DVD freeze-frames are for, I guess. :)

Besides, there was nothing Daniels told Archer on ENT that said when the Xindi joined the Federation...only that they had already joined by the 26th century and the Battle of Procyon V. For all we know, the reapproachment between Earth and the Xindi after the weapon crisis was resolved might have led to them joining as early as the late 22nd century.
