Federation Deflector Dish Question

USS Valkyrie

Commander
Red Shirt
Again, a totally random subject for the same story, but why are Federation deflector dishes usually blue? Could it be, say...green?

Since the glowing colored deflector dish began with The Motion Picture and that film depicted at least two different colors for the dish at different power levels. I don't see why it couldn't be another color. But I suspect Federation blue comes from the intrinsic properties of the materials used in the construction of the deflector as well as the types of energies used. Green is usually associated with the Romulans; their materials and energies being of a slightly different basis, but I don't suppose its the law or anything.

Well, this story is totally nuts my most of you alls standards. It combines Trek with Star Wars and other levels of fantasy. The ship that my character is using is a recaptured Constitution class Refit vessel. Since the Federation doesn't exist in this universe, my character has no qualms with paying homage to the standard Trek universe, his home, by having the markings changed to those of the old, first refit Enterprise. He is, however, making all kinds of newer, more modern refits done to the inner workings. His old ship had a green deflector, so he wants to change the this one in the same manor.
I know all of this sounds completely insane to most of you, but it's turning out to be a very interesting and deep story. Thanks in advance for any help you guys may be in the future.

Hey whatever works. I wrote a couple of stories about a giant 10km long plecostomus-fish in space that tormented several generations of the Starship Yamato and may or may not have actually be responsible for destroying the Galaxy-Class one by accident before being hunted down by the 11km long Starfleet Uber Anti-Borg Dreadnought USS Gambler... more or less a scaled up Galaxy-Class with two secondary hulls, five nacelles, a rollbar, antiproton cannon, phaser-cannons and every weapon gimmic ever seen on screen. The challenge was writing situations that prevented it from showing up at Wolf 359, at the second Borg encounter, and explaining why it sat out the Dominion war.

So yeah. You have a long long ways to go before you're considered totally nuts my friend. :D

LOL, I appreciate the vote of confidence. I know that in most cases, it's considered a fanboy taboo to combine two separate universes. However, since Star Trek functions off of the theory of the multi-verse, why not? The possibilities are endless.
It's not really a written story, per se', as it is an online simm/RPG that a friend of mine and myself are playing out. Lots of love, war, death-doom-and-destruction. :P
