February SF Book of the Month Club Nominations

Since several people seem to be currently reading January's Book - The Moon is a Harsh Mistress - I'm going to open up nominations for February. This should give people 3+ weeks to make nominations, vote, and go out and get the book.

Rules:

1) The book should be either a stand-alone novel or the first of a series.

2) The book should be readily available as a mass market paperback in North America and the UK. Please check before you make a nomination. Being available in an e-book would be nice, but not necessary.

3) No tie-in fiction / books based off of TV series or movies.(e.g. Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Doctor Who). Book that have been turned into television series or movies is okay.

4) No "door stoppers" (e.g. Peter F. Hamilton) If it's over a few hundred pages, don't bother suggesting it. It shouldn't take more than a month to read for those of us who don't speed read or have a lot of free time.

5) No repeating authors within a year. So, for February, NO Heinlein.

If you're interested, make nominations (or second them) and I will put the most popular in a poll to vote. They can be classics or something you think everyone will enjoy. Post links if it's not a book you think everyone will be familiar with.

I'd suggest the Hunger games but I just finished the trilogy last month. Other than that, it was an excellent book that was a quick easy read.

I suggest Pavane by Keith Roberts for 2 reasons.
One, Feb is a short month and the book is fairly slender,
and, two, I am dying to discuss this thought-provoking novel with someone and have been since I first read it years ago.
