February 2009 Rare Photos @ TrekCore

Hey all! It's February, and that means new Rare Photos! Also some good news, just got a big haul of potential new source material. I've expanded my works in progress folders from a 6 months lead-time, to a full year, because I've confident I've got at least that much material. And as long as I keep finding more as I work on those articles for a year in advance, it'll just keep going.

So many good ones, I have trouble picking my favorites to highlight! :)

First row, right - I dub this photo of B'Elanna to be of "perfect" quality. It's rare to have absolute perfect quality photos, but when you do... you know it!

Second row, left - a rare season 3 DS9 publicity photo of Ben and Jake Sisko. It's done in the exact same style as the rest of that years PB photos, and was seen on-screen in "The Visitor" if I recall correctly.

Bottom row, left - Worf in Klingon regalia with a bit of a smile. It's so rare to see Worf smile.

Page two, second row, right - Shatner and Nichols share a laugh and a hug. Wish we had more photos like this, where the TOS crew was all friendly. Even if it apparently didn't last between takes, lol.

Fourth row, left - Until yesterday, this photo was title "mystery" Picard. Then I happened upon another photo in a Trek Magazine that, when you look closely, you can see the same corridor behind that photos subject, Brent Spiner as Data. The conclusion? A third variation of publicity photos taken for the film Insurrection.

Fourth row, right - Rare TWOK publicity photo of Jimmy Doohan in radiation suit. I recently got ahold of this (autographed) through the folks at Star Trek: Of Gods and Men. (They had a deal, buy an autograph, get the DVD - and I'd never seen this Jimmy Doohan photo before, so...)

Fifth row, right - Starfleet Academy or TV Guide? We debated that point over another photo of the Shat wearing an oddly cut collar with his SF uniform. Now it's round two, lol. I dubbed it TVGuide, but... it's up for debate.

Which (of all of them) are your favorites? Always curious to hear that -- rarely do I find my favorites match up with all of you!

On page one, I LOVE the one of Gene and the Guinan one.

On page two - the one of Frakes behind the camera is a great shot. Really like the one of McCoy in scrubs too.

Just on a quick pass, I liked the Worf smiling, the sort of surreal Guinan one in fifth row right, the Kirk/Spock on page 2 fifth row center and the Seven of Nine immediately to the left of it, the De Kelley on page 2 second row left and the Captain Proton/Buster Kincaid one.

I've seen the "buspunk" one before, but I don't think I'd noticed before the tape-marks laid on the sand to mark where everyone was supposed to stand. Not sure I remember the "HMS Bounty" painted in the background, but it's been a while.

I'd say TV Guide or TIME as that's the only time Shatner wore the open collar undershirt from his TFF assault uniform with his regular duty uniform.

It's from TV Guide's Star Trek 30th anniversary issue. I believe they did four covers: Kirk, Picard, Sisko, and Janeway. Put all four covers together and the Starfleet arrowhead formed in the middle.

The Shat does seem to look identical.

I also can't quite see the Academy game using such a back-drop, where it to make a photo. But a magazine, like TVGuide, surely.

I'd love to get my hands on the original photo of Picard from those covers.

Nice pics. That one of De/Bones has always been a favourite of mine. I'm a bit confused by the date on the picture of Backula and Frakes. It's totally wrong!

Wow, I love seeing the pic of the Galileo 7 creature. The makeup was too crude to hold up close. Too bad.

Some people just don't program their cameras time and date stamp, lol. :p

Well, at least this proves the female wardrobe wasn't the only thing skimped on back in the day. ;)

Faced with Bakula and Frakes in my viewfinder, I don't think I'd be interested in the date stamp, either!

Frontier, I really enjoy reading your thoughts on the images - where you came by them etc. Thanks for doing this.

Frontier, great pics! Thanks for posting them!

Yes Frontier!!! Really, Thanks for posting these OUTSTANDING pictures. It was really nice to see some old pictures of DeForrest Kelly, James Doohan, and even those of Leonard Nimoy. Thanks, again for posting the great pictures.:techman:

Omfg, that last picture of Shatner is REALLY creepy...he looks fake...

That said, I like the one of Worf smiling, and Chakotay! He's so handsome <3

Take away all that movie make-up and a lot of our favorite actors get scary.

Certainly fabulous! :) I especially loved the Seven one so I "adapted" it into an avatar. Thanks for posting them! :D

I wish I knew more about that photo. It resembles one of the white-background pb shots of her, but if you look close at the bottom left corner, it looks as if another persons arm or some such was in the photo, someone in SF uniform perhaps.
