Favourite Star Wars scene?

DBR

Vice Admiral
Admiral
From any movie, cartoon, or book, what was your favourite Star Wars moment?

Tie. Between three.

"You failed, Your Highness. I am a Jedi, like my Father before me."
"So be it...Jedi."

And;

"Obi Wan has taught you well, but you are not a Jediiiiyyet."

And;

"I have failed you, Anakin. I have failed you."

Tie between:

Emperor vs. Luke vs. Darth Vader

and

Palpatine's scene with Anakin during the opera. Totally haunting.

"You failed, Your Highness. I am a Jedi, like my Father before me."
"So be it...Jedi."
Damn! That's what I was gonna say. :p

Really, I thought that entire sequence with Luke, Vader, and the Emperor on the Death Star was fantastic. While the space battle is also great, without Luke/Vader/Emperor, ROTJ wouldn't have been nearly as good as it was.

The scene where Luke yells "Never!!" and FINALLY goes off on his deadbeat dad. Sure it was his dark side moment, but after three films it was a hell of a release.

Can't narrow it down to one.

I love the Immolation scene in Episode III. "You were the chosen one!"

I also love the Order 66 scene as well. Haunting and powerful.

All of the Mos Eisley stuff in Episode IV. Just seeing a bit of how people live in that universe was pretty cool. That was the first time in Star Wars that we saw more than a few people at once.

And finally, the scene that started it all. The shot of the Star Destroyer chasing the Tantive IV in Episode 4. That scene changed movies for ever.

The Battle of Hoth, mainly the "Target! Maximum firepower!" part.

That whole sequence makes the trilogy for me, it reinforces the idea that the Rebels got lucky with the Death Star. Without it, you can't really see the Empire as a threat anymore because the Rebels just flew a few beaten up old fighters up to their heavily armed battlestation and blew it to pieces.

the droid commando attack in "Rookies"

the trench run in ANH

Obi-Wan vs Anakin in ROTS

Yoda's single-handed ambush in "Ambush"

the cliff-face fight in The Clone Wars movie.

"You failed, Your Highness. I am a Jedi, like my Father before me."

When I saw ROTJ as a kid, I was always disappointed in how it kept cutting away from the cool space battles to the throne room scenes. Nowadays I see how it is all interlinked to build up the tension.

Also, someone's got to say it first: any scene with Leia's metal bikini!

I have no idea what number one would be...

TPM: Opening Jedi action, Pod race, Duel Fates

AOTC: Opening shot of the Queen's ship descending through the clouds (my first experience with digital theaters- WOW), Coruscant speeder chase, Obi vs. Jango, Battle of Geonosis, Yoda vs. Dooku

ROTS: The opening shot, the opera scene, Obi vs. Grevious, Order 66, Yoda vs. Sidious (very underrated fight), Obi vs. Anakin

ANH: the heroes running around on the Death Star

ESB: the probe droid emerging out of the snow crater, Battle of Hoth, asteroid chase

ROTJ: fight on Jabba's barge, Rebel briefing scene, the space fight, Ackbar "It's a trap!"

05 TV Clone Wars: Anakin vs. Ventress on Yavin, Grevious taking apart a bunch of Jedi on Hypori, the clone trooper rescue from Grevious, every second of the Sep attack on Coruscant, particularly Shaak Ti running away from Grevious with Palpatine in tow

The original Han shot first at Mos Eisley scene. The ORIGINAL!! I think it represents the character nicely with introducing him to the audience.

Episode III Anakin versus Obi Wan, especially Obi Wan's gut wrenching "You were the chosen one!" Ewan McGregor did an excellent job.

Mace Windu tearing the crap outta battle droids bare handed from the clone wars miniseries

Deus ex, all the way. I don't care how good you are - you're goin' down againgst that many droids.

For me, Darth Vader comes in for the kill shot on Luke's six and in comes Han and Chewie "yahooo!!! Let's blow this thing and go home!"

that and, "You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! You were to bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness!
"I hate you!!!
"You were my brother, Anakin! I loved you!"

"You failed, Your Highness. I am a Jedi, like my Father before me."
"So be it...Jedi."
Damn! That's what I was gonna say. :p

That's my favorite part of the films as well.

I love how much emotional conflict is conveyed in Vader's mask as he looks between Palpatine and Luke despite his expression not being able to change. The play of the shadows and the reflection of the lightning off the mask, and just a subtle tilt of his head say so much more than words in that situation.

Fantastic sequence all around, but especially so from when Luke finally unleashes on Vader to when Vader turns on Palpatine. Powerful stuff.

Two favorites:

Mine would be the Order 66 scene(s) in ROTS. All those Jedi (most of whom were there through the whole trilogy) were betrayed. As sbk1234 said, haunting and powerful.

Next would be the final scene in ESB. Luke, Leia and the droids watching the Millennium Falcon depart from the medical frigate with the spiral galaxy in the background. I know from an astronomical perspective, it doesn't make much sense, but the scene was truly breathtaking on the big screen.
