Too Much Fun

So here's my third poll about favourite Star Trek villains, and as I did in the other ones, I must warn you that there may be unintentional exclusions. I've seen fewer DS9 episodes than Star Trek or TNG, since I'm not yet finished watching the sixth and seventh seasons for the first time. Also, I can't remember much of season 1, but like with the other polls, I did a bit of 'research' to try to make as complete a list as possible. Again I apologize if I forgot anyone's favourite. I hope you all enjoy voting for/discussing these DASTARDLY FIENDS.

So very tough. DS9 had so many great villains. I'm going to have to go with Weyoun. He was interesting and entertaining. I would have him just barely beat out Dukat. The Female Changeling was pure evil. And Kai Winn? I felt the need to physically attack her. What a great bunch. I almost want a 4-way tie.

I had to look up who Rao Vantika was, so there is no way he would get my vote...though he's an odd choice, there are more noteworthy villains then him. I also would disagree with Smiley being a villain, in my opinion he is probably the most "heroic" human of the mirror universe, as in displaying heroic qualities. Also Verad is not a wannabe Trill, he is a Trill.

I voted for Winn in the end because she was the one I hated the most throughout the show, it's not that I didn't want her on the show she just made me want to throw her into an airlock and flush her into space because she was such an unpleasant and selfish witch.

Yeah, I debated whether or not I should put Smiley up there since he was very likable, especially for a villain, but ultimately my reasoning was that even if he was likable, he did still kidnap Jake and blackmail Sisko into helping him if he didn't want Jake killed. A lot of villains have heroic moments. Q certainly had his moments of kindness, such as giving Data the gift of a laugh and saving the planet that Picard was struggling to help in "Deja Q". Just because a person did good or heroic things doesn't mean they weren't still a villain. And we're getting into semantics here, but yeah, it would have been more accurate to call Verad a wannabe joined trill.

Weyoun, followed by Verad. But Weyoun was the definitive DS9 villain. Like watching a train wreck. You hate the guy but just can't look away when he's on screen.

Verad because I love all things Dax (except Ezri).

I voted for Weyoun. Dukat seemed an obvious choice, but he lost some of his oomph when he went insane (YMMV). I also considered Kai Winn, as she was a character I truly loved to hate, but DS9 was such a good show that it seldom let things stay so black and white and I remember clearly the events of 'Rapture' and how they cast Winn in a new light, and I even sympathised with her in her final arc. But Weyoun, though I loved the character and actor that played him (them?), and inspite of the 'flawed' clone from TF&tGR, remained slimey & vile & fun to despise. :)

Forgive my gift for run-on sentences. lol

Dukat it is - I love Damar, but after his redemption, I can't think of him as a villain any more.

Edit: And Dukat was always more thoroughly villainous anyway. Damar started out as a mere thug, and became really interesting only after he ceased to be thuggish.

I voted Dukat. I think, in the end, I don't have such a problem with the red-eye plot as others do. The tragedy in the character was this: he could have been great. But every step along the way, he made his choices. And eventually, he paid the price.

I'm surprised that you even needed a poll for this!

I vote for Gul Skrain Dukat for the reasons already espoused by Nerys Ghemor above.
(And also for JustKate's concise analysis of my namesake. Damar is the real hero of Deep Space Nine. Or at least the Final Chapter.)

This is tough because DS9 had so many well-written villains.

I'm going to go with Kai Winn because she was truly infuriorating. She evoked the strongest emotions in me, so I would say her character was very effective.

However, Weyoun was a lot more enjoyable to watch and had some very creative storylines. His episodes have a greater re-watch value for me because he was "fun" to hate. I really can't stand Kai Winn. But then, that's why she's such a great villain.

Weyoun, Dukat, and Winn are all great. I love to hate them all. But I had to go with Dukat because his lust for Kira shows he had great taste in women.

DAM I can only pick one.

Well I choose Dukat, but a few of my other choises are Weyoun, Damar, Brunt, and (in the later seasons) Kai Winn (I didn't like her at first).

I choose Weyoun for the alluded sadism. If he'd been a better person, then he- the only solid the female ever trusted- could have softened the extremism of the Founders. But all he wanted to do was have more responsibility, and unleash as many Jem'Hadar on civilians as possible.

He's out of Darvin, Joran, Damar (a puppet), Jaro, Verad etc 's leagues. Salarin Prin had a good point despite the deaths, Winn I wanted to punch, but in the end, it was ambition... which has trumped many. I'm not sure Smiley should be on the list- he too was trying to free his people- Sisko did worse than Smiley did.

Eddington and Riker were Maquis... Brunt was a Ferengi, they weren't worse than other Maquis or Ferengi.

Vantika was creepy... but a one-time deal.

I fault all Founders as much as "the female changeling" who were also victims of genocide, which would only reinforce their paranoia.

I voted for Gul Dukat.

My Top 5:
1. Dukat
2. Winn
3. Weyoun
4. The Female Changeling
5. Intendent Kira

I also liked Jaro, Sloan (though I didn't care for the S31 episodes, except the Romulan one), and Verad

It's Dukat, isn't it? Aside from Khan, the best in the whole 40+ years.

There's terrific depth there - he starts out as a fairly routine baddy, but by the middle of the series, he's getting chummy with Sisko, heroically fighting the Klingons, nearly wins over Kira, and obviously and genuinely loves Ziyal.

All his scenes with Kira are brilliant, I love how self-absorbed he is, and his desire to be loved and respected by everyone. At first I thought making him insane was a mistake - Sisko's line in Waltz about him being "truly evil" is still terrible, and misses the point - but then the writers won me back by making him the Pah-Wraith Emissary. I thought that was a great twist, and sums the guy up. He desperately wants to be the hero, despite all the evil things he did, and wants to have the love and dedication that Sisko inspires in people.

The final arc, disguising himself as a Bajoran and shaking up with the equally brilliant Kai Winn, is a great end for the character. Though I still wonder if Kira deserved to be the one to kill him, after all they had been through.

fo me this was only going to be between 2 characters - weyoun, and Dukat.

i had to go with Weyoun cause i've never thought Dukat always played a villain. he did have the capacity to surprise you and be a good guy on occasion (whatever his motives). I think Jeffery Combs (apologies if its spelt wrong) did an oustanding job as Weyoun. he had such a likeable character but at the same time a ruthless efficiency about him.

Also, he has one of the best quotes ever - "of course i'm paranoid, everyone is trying to kill me"
