I have always had a thing for Scrooged, Bill Murray's lesser known comedy from the late 80s which is a modern day - despite featuring Aparthied in SA and East Berlin - retelling of A Christmas Carol, arguably the best Christmas story every.

Well, apart from that one about that baby born in the manger anyway. :)

I also have a great soft spot for Love Actually, Richard Curtis' absolutely brilliant gestalt of a comedy which I go out of my way to watch around this time each year.

I have never ever seen It's a Wonderful Life but am visiting a friend on sunday who owns it so am determined to watch it this year.

What's yours?

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I watch it every year. I'm a little like Clark with the Christmas lights (not inept, I just use a lot of lights).
The scenes with the in-laws are so funny because they are so real. I like the scene with the 2 grandfathers sitting in their Lazy Boys while they snore through the football game.

"A Christmas Carol" - the 1951 version with Alastair Sim as Scrooge.

Also, "Remember the Night" starring Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray.

The Nightmare Before Christmas and Batman Returns

Amen! I'd also like to add my voice to the chorus praising Die Hard, It's a Wonderful Life, & The Muppet Christmas Carol.

For another unconventional choice, another action movie set during Christmas-- Reindeer Games. (Ben Affleck plays a recently released convict who pretends to be his dead cell-mate so that he can get jiggy with his sexy prison pen pal. Gary Sinise plays her crazed brother, who blackmails Affleck into helping him on an Indian casino heist.)

"The Bishop's Wife" with Cary Grant, David Niven and Loretta Young.

Not too many know it these days, giving me the joy of introducing them to it.

Well, since we're limiting ourselves to feature-length films, it would be:
  • A Christmas Carol (the 1984 George C. Scott version)
  • Miracle on 34th Street (the original version)
  • Love Actually
  • A Christmas Story
  • White Christmas

A Christmas Story
Scrooged
Miracle on 34th Street
It's a Wonderful Life
Santa Clause Conquers the Martians

Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
The Muppet Christmas Carol
A Christmas Story
It's A Wonderful Life
A Christmas Carol (1951)
Scrooge (1935)
White Christmas (I saw the play last year and enjoyed it as well!)
