Favourite Big Finish Stories

I've only listened to about 100 audio plays up to this point (my next listen, The Suffering, will in fact be number 100), but from what I have listened to, this is my top 10:

1. Spare Parts (Fifth)
2. The Chimes of Midnight (Eighth)
3. The Holy Terror (Sixth)
4. Old Soldiers (Third, Companion Chronicle)
5. Shada (Eighth)
6. Sympathy for the Devil (Unbound)
7. Neverland (Eighth)
8. Home Truths (First, Companion Chronicle)
9. The Doll of Death (Third, Companion Chronicle)
10. Scherzo (Eighth)

I think it's safe to say that The Eighth Doctor has become my favorite Big Finish Doctor.

Um, some random favorites:

Caerdroia (Eighth, Charley, C'rizz, Kro'ka)
The Chimes of Midnight (Eighth, Charley)
Circular Time (Fifth, Nyssa)
The Condemned (Sixth, Charley)
Davros (Sixth, Davros)
Flip-Flop (Seventh, Mel)
Home Truths (First, Sara, Steven)
Jubilee (Sixth, Evelyn)
The Kingmaker (Fifth, Peri, Erimem)
The Maltese Penguin (Sixth, Frobisher)
Master (Seventh, Master)
Memory Lane (Eighth, Charley, C'rizz)
The Natural History of Fear (Eighth, Charley, C'rizz)
Neverland (Eighth, Charley, Romana)
Other Lives (Eighth, Charley, C'rizz)
Ringpullworld (Fifth, Turlough, Tegan)
The Scapegoat (Eighth, Lucie)
Scherzo (Eighth, Charley)
Seasons of Fear (Eighth, Charley)
Solitaire (Eighth, Charley)
Terror Firma (Eighth, Charley, C'rizz)

Okay, that was more than I thought it would be. Sorry. Obviously I should have restricted myself to a Top Ten like Emh!

I'm really only a regular Eighth Doctor audio listener, but I've pretty much enjoyed the majority of his stories. McGann's an excellent Doctor. "Shada" and "The Chimes of Midnight" are two of my faves.

I've only heard a few Big Finish stories because they're rather expensive to obtain here in Canada. Last year Doctor Who and BBC Audios began showing up in bookstores, as did the Big Finish "Highlander" and "Stargate" releases, but so far BF's Doctor Whos have yet to turn up.

So I've only been able to hear a few (I prefer physical media to downloads - I know that option exists):

The Apocalypse Element (Sixth Doctor and Romana)
The Stealers from Saiph (Romana I Companion Chronicle)
Cuddlesome (DWM special disc with Five)
The Ratings War (DWM special disc with Six)
Last of the Titans (DWM special disc with Seven)

The Ratings War is one I get a kick out of. It features the DWM comic strip villain Beep the Meep and features a song that ranks up there with "The Chicken Song" as one of those tunes you just want to leave your head, but it won't.

I did quite enjoy hearing Mary Tamm's reading of Stealers from Saiph, too.

My next purchase is going to probably be the Companion Chronicle "Peri and the Piscon Paradox", read by Nicola Bryant. I've read several reviews including on Doctor Who Online, calling this one of the best Big Finish audios ever produced.

Divided by Doctor:

Peter Davison:
"Circular Time." It's got a lot of strong dialogue scenes, particular with Isaac Newton in the summer sequence & Nyssa's romance & the Doctor's cricket vacation in the autumn sequence.

"Omega." Some bizarre humor & a great little twist around the end of part 3.

"Excelis Dawns." I love Iris Wildthyme. That's all there is to it.

Colin Baker:
"The Holy Terror." I love Frobisher. "Now before you do anything hasty or violent..."

"Davros." He makes you pity him even as you hate him.

Sylvester McCoy:
"Colditz." Does a great job of playing around with time travel. Plus, David Tennant makes a guest appearances as a vile SS officer that keeps threatening to rape Ace.

"Flip Flop." Another very interesting exercise in time travel. Unfortunately, my copy is a bit scratched up at the beginning of one of the discs.

Paul McGann:
I'm really enjoying all of the Divergent Universe stuff. Stranded without the TARDIS, beyond the universe that the Doctor knows, the stakes feel a lot higher and the series a lot more dangerous.
"Scherzo" is a triumph of pure audio storytelling.
"The Creed of the Kromon" is fascinating and pretty gross especially as
Charley is transformed into an insect queen.
"The Natural History of Fear" is one of the strangest things I've ever heard. Paul McGann gives another tour-de-force performance, demonstrating just how frightening the Doctor would be if he took all of that power & intelligence and used it for evil.

The Condemned (Sixth, Charley)

Does this pick up where "The Girl Who Never Was" left off, with Charley leaving the 8th Doctor only to get stranded with a new Doctor?

^ Yes, it does.
As I recall, the first scene is the last scene of The Girl Who Never Was from Sixie's point-of-view.
It's also quite, quite good.
