Favorite William Ware Theiss costume design?

The Tellarites... looked like they were wearing patches of ventilation duct material.

They probably were, considering Trek's budget induced thriftiness.

Re: Favorite William Ware Thiess costume design?

Don't know if he designed it or not, but Droxine's outfit in "The Cloud-minders" is most accessible. ;)

And we see Leslie Parrish (again) in that very same Bill Theiss dress (again) from a first season episode of the Desilu Studios production Mannix--"The Girl in The Frame:"

As is often the case, I don't have anything substantial to add to the conversation. However, if we're going to laud Theiss' work, can we at least spell his name correctly?

Curmudgeonly Nitpicker Doug

:alienblush: :scream: D'OH!! Dammit! I usually double check the spelling of people's names, too. Since I started this thread 5 days ago on the 22nd, it looks like it's too late to change the thread title. Perhaps a Mod could make the adjustment?

And MAN, those Team 21 outfits are sharp! They have such a sleek, impactful design, I could easily see them as superhero costumes.

I wonder what he was drinking/smoking/popping when he came up with these getups?
:rommie:

Or the guards’ outfits from “A Taste of Armageddon.” Talk about your Planet of Hats!

And these costumes from “Elaan of Troyius” were also a bit over-the-top. All they need is antennae and they'd look like gay lobsters!

Hehehee... well, in the 50's it was mostly considered a faux pas for a man not to wear a hat. Maybe this was a bit of a reflection of the recent times. But yeah, what peculiar hats these guys wore. Not comfortable, I'll bet.

A real fine example of just how outlandish someone else's culture can appear... I wonder if that was the intent? The Elaan had a rather cool Cleopatra based look. From what I read, the panels were made from something like plastic placemats!

Actually, I'll bet some of those costumes looked far worse in person. Greg Schnitzer has commented quite a bit on the remaking of props for TOS fan produced episodes, how rather crappy the originals looked yet were successfully glossed over by clever lighting and sufficient distance from the cameras. Digital remastering has been able to excavate some of that lost detail in the old episodes.

I'm definitely going with "Cloudminders", but only if it's filled with Diana Ewing.

I don't get the fascination with her. I'd have a hard time picking her over say, Harry Mudd's Stella.

I'm going with the Cloudminders costume as well! And Ms. Ewing is certainly lovely but I'll admit the costuem might have made her stand out a little more in my memory.

Gay lobsters......that's hilarious!:guffaw:

Seconded!

Re: Favorite William Ware Thiess costume design?

One of my favorite Bill Theiss designs is the design for the "Team 21" uniforms from Roddenberry's pilot Planet Earth. You can see that they are a harbinger of TNG uniforms. And look: there's that Kirk/command avacodo green color again.

Agree, it is a good design.:vulcan:

I've got two Theiss dresses I wouldn't mind wearing:

Diana Muldaur's dress in "In There in Truth No Beauty". The bead overnetting for the dress was beautiful invention and brought a new sense of texture and shine to the garment.

Also, Gem's gown in "The Empath" was beautiful. Loved the color and the patterning. Especially the detailing around the neck.

(Sorry, I can't find pics of these gowns!)
