Favorite Vic Fontaine Song

I just saw It's Only a Paper Moon (Right after seeing Siege of AR-558, which makes for a damn fine back-to-back) and I got to thinking, I loved the idea of Vic Fontaine. He was a great addition to the late seasons and had many great rat pack songs. Which one was your favorite.

I love them all. I have all of James Darren's recent CD's. I picked "The way you look tonight" because I love that song!

Vic was great.. I'm a big fan of James Darren. It's Only A Paper Moon won me over but, it was close between that and I'll be seeing you.

Dispite the fact that some people couldn't look past the fact that it was a hologram storyline I found vic's character and music to add a lot of emotion to certain epi. of DS9.. They didn't hit it right on the head with every one but, overall he brought an element to the show that was very unique.. THE BEST holographic character in all of Trek history in my opinion humble though it may be.

I enjoyed Vic very much, and thought he brought a certain "thingyness" to the show that was missing before. He was kind of like a greek chorus: commenting in the background, but not really part of the action. Can't say I cared for the singing, though .... not really my style.

I love that kind of music. Man, those guys just knew how to sing..... no computer technology could "enhance" singing abilities back in the day.

I appreciate that.

I like 'em all. Vic won my heart with "you're nobody til' somebody loves you"...but of course, all are really great.

I've gotten into it too. After watching It's Only a Paper Moon this week, I turned on my Ipod to a Frank Sinatra CD I have and really gained a new apprecitation for it. For those who say you don't like Vic Fontaine, if you even love this kind of music, than there would have been at least one song from the series that stood out for you, since they are all covers.

I was really annoyed in general with the whole "Vic Fontaine" and "Space Ranger" (whatever) and "Nick Danger PI" thing in the holodecks. ALL of their historical interests were in OUR distant history. Their concerts? Always Mozart. Their plays? Always Shakespeare.

NOT ONCE did they have anything seriously contemporary with us in THEIR history, or anything from OUR future (but their history). Where was the Beatles or Abba's music? Where were plays by Tom Stoppard or Ingmar Bergman, or some guy who hasn't even been born yet?

It was really annoying.

^

But Vic Fontaine was singing real songs from our fairly recent history in real-life. :D

I absolutely hated every single holodeck character in any Trek show except for Vic Fontaine, who was an amazing breathe of fresh air in my view. I love Vic.

My favorite song that Vic sang is "It's Only a Paper Moon".

For budgetry reasons, of course. These works have passed into the public domain, with no royalty owing.

The Best is yet to come - Great song with a great performance by Darren and Brooks. Also, I thought it was great that they placed this almost right before the final ten-part run of episodes.

I'll be seeing you - A beautiful song put to great use as something Nog uses to cling to. It's really a very beautiful and melancholic song that Darren interprets really well, I think.

The Way you look tonight - Another beautiful song that's put to great use. I'll probably always think of DS9 and WYLB when hearing this one. Bittersweet, in many ways.

^Yeah, those were my choices as well. It was awesome to see Ben Sisko sing and it worked marvellously as the end of that episode (one I loved, by the way).
The use of I'll Be Seeing You in AR-558 made the battle sequence look very surreal and melancholy.
Knowing that some of the actors themselves had a hard time filming the scene with The Way You Look Tonight adds to it.

Thank God they didn't play Abba. Now that would have turned me off the show....:)

Though the Beatles would have been nice....

"The Best is Yet to Come" because it previews the final chapter :D

"The Way You Look Tonight" is my number 2 choice

I chose "Come Fly with Me" because it's a nice, airy, jazzy tune; but they were all good. I enjoy pop music and culture from the late 50s--early 60s. In many ways, it really was a time where "class" was the name of the game.
