Favorite original characters from Trek novels.

Now I recall that Ingrit Tomson was TOS Enterprise security chief in some of the novels. But who were Stanger and Stone?

Jon Stanger was a member of Tomson's security crew in J.M. Dillard's novels. Quentin Stone was a character in Peter David's TNG novel A Rock and a Hard Place, often seen as a prototype for Mackenzie Calhoun in New Frontier.

I thought that Katee Sackoff was the fan favorite to play Vale.

I think Cobie Smulders is the best Vale candidate I've heard suggested. When I wrote Vale, it wasn't with any specific actress in mind, but once I'd seen Smulders as Maria Hill and then heard her suggested for Vale, I realized she came very close to what I'd been imagining.

I went and looked at some novel descriptions online. Was Stanger in the novel where there was a disease onboard that seemed to mimic vampire-ism?

I recurring thread, I'm struggling to think of who I mentioned last time, though the list changes depending on what I re-read last... a random top 10:
  1. Nanietta Bacco (misc)
  2. Domenica Corsi (SCE)
  3. Thirishar ch'Thane (DS9)
  4. Wol (GKN)
  5. Shucorion (NWE/CHA)
  6. P8 Blue (SCE)
  7. Elias Vaughn (DS9)
  8. Liam O'Donnell (VGR)
  9. Miranda Kadohata (TNG)
  10. Taran'atar (DS9)
On a rather depressing side note - most of these characters are no longer part of the regular lineup. :( Though in all fairness, some series - Titan, Voyager and Vanguard especially, have such a large strong cast that it's difficult to pick favorites.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you(try getting the computer away from my teenage daughters).
Jon Stanger was a security redshirt, prominent in TOS novel "Bloodthirst."
Quentin Stone was a troubled officer who temporarily filled in for Riker in "a rock and a hard place".

Stone is awesome. He is obviously a proto type for Calhoun, but he has some distinct qualities that make him a different character - the biggest difference I think is that Calhoun allowed himself to care about his crew and Shelby in a way that I don't think Stone was capable of.
