Favorite guilty-pleasure movies

We all have a favorite movie that almost everyone else despises. Mine's Congo.

This truely is a bad movie, adapted from the novel by Michael Crichton and directed by Frank Marshall. The plot is ludicrous, the special effects pretty poor (men in suit playing homicidal apes) and the acting leaves a lot to be desired. Most importantly, the movie depicts Africa and its people as dangerous and corrupt. Granted, Congo is not the only movie who has done this, but they certainly didn't win any prcies for subtlety here.

Still, I love the movie. It's got some crazy action scenes, some fantastically wrong dialogue, a great score by Jerry Goldsmith and some hilarious performances by Tim Curry and Delroy Lindo.

This movie really is so bad it's good.

So, what are your guilty-pleasures?

Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze

It starred Ron Ely (Tarzan from the 1960s NBC series), who gets his shirt torn more often than Captain Kirk, has an animated twinkle in his eye, and is accompanied by a thunderous John Philip Sousa march with its own lyrics. The film isn't quite as campy as the Adam West Batman series, but it comes pretty close. Today it's probably most notable for featuring a pre-Breakfast Club Paul Gleason as Long Tom, one of Doc's "Brain Trust."

Probably The Replacements for me. A Keanu Reeves movie, it has a predictable plot and some really cheesy scenes and not even Hackman can save it. I watch it whenever it comes on.

Clue.

Yes, it's dumb as hell, but the cast was great and some of the lines still make me laugh.

I always pause and watch it for awhile when I catch it while channel surfing.

Kung Pow! Enter the Fist

"Gentlemen! From this day forward you will all refer to me by the name... Betty. Nyahahaha!"

"Pay no attention to Wimp Lo. He is an idiot. We purposely trained him wrong as a joke."

I love the theme song!

"Thank the Lord he's here at last!"

OMG, that's my favorite guilty-pleasure movie as well.

"Take me man-meat. Oh but I don't want you to think that I'm a slut."

Commando - because 80s action doesn't get any more stupid, ridiculous and pure awesome than this.
I also like Emmerich's disaster porn, 2012 is the best of them. Armageddon is great too, because everyone looks like they are having fun filming it, despite a completely ridiculous story.

Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Totally shameless B-movie (bad acting, bad story, bad special effects, and bad boob support). Loved it. Although I freely admit I've never seen this movie totally sober...

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. I don't really feel guilty about liking this movie at all, but then I didn't take it for anything more than it was--a movie based on a toyline.

Krull. Looks slightly dated these days, but otherwise a cool '80s movie during the last days of the Star Wars-inspired films.

And anything by Roger Corman and Andy Sidaris...

^ I think that I'd have to go with the two Elvira movies as well. I really like Cassandra Peterson for some reason. Maybe it's the boobs.

Some of these movies being listed are great movies! Who Framed Roger Rabbit was nominated for several oscars.

Good pick. :techman: I like that movie a lot too. It's obviously not very original or realistic, but I have fond memories of laughing at it with friends in high school. My favourite part is when the other team is distracted by the cheerleaders doing stripper moves! It's a sweet and funny movie.

I liked the first "Charlie's Angels" as well. It was fun and silly, but enjoyable summer entertainment. The second one pissed me off, though. It was so loud and the story sucked. There were times when it just felt like a terrible music video, as the music drowned out everything.

I don't think "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" should be labelled 'guilty pleasures'. If anything, they should be considered underrated classics. To this day, I still think "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure" is Tim Burton's second best movie (although I haven't seen the last two). It's so imaginative, cleverly written, and endearing, with superb acting and directing.

Movies that I know are pretty lame, but I like them anyway:

"Ace Ventura: Pet Detective"
"Bad Boys"
"Batman Forever"
"Broken Arrow"
"Demolition Man"
"Dumb and Dumber"
"Independence Day"
"Time Cop"
"The Mummy"
"The Mummy Returns"
"Universal Soldier"

Most of these are flicks I saw as a kid and loved at the time. Nostalgia goes a long way sometimes. Action movies used to be so much more fun in the 90s, even when they were bad.

"Oh, Taco Bell! Taco Bell! Product placement from Taco Bell..."

"Where does it hurt?"
"Right around the big bloody spot."

"I'll get the Neosporin. Na-na-na-na-na-Neo! Na-na-na-na-na-sporin!"
