No one said they were. The post you quoted specified New Series companion, and Clara is the longest running companion in the modern era.
Although, IIRC the issue of which companion lasted the longest over all is a toss up between Lis Sladen and Frazier Hines. Lis Sladen did the most amount of years, but seasons were longer when Frazier Hines was on the show. Though if you include SJA, then Lis Sladen definitely wins.
If you include the mini episodes as well as the Children in Need and Comic Relief Specials, Amy just nudges ahead with one
For classic companions, IIRC, someone once did a spreadsheet that counted each episode and found that Jamie clocked in with the most episodes of any of them.
For the new series, I was just counting regular full-length episodes/specials. That gives us 36 for Clara if we just count her main run from "The Snowmen" through "Hell Bent" but only 33 for Amy if we count everything from "The Eleventh Hour" through "The Angels Take Manhattan." (And I'm sorely tempted to subtract a couple from Amy's total due to her very brief appearances in "Closing Time" & "The Doctor, the Widow, & the Wardrobe.")
