Not only was Clara the longest running new series companion ever, she also had multiple departures from the series. Granted, many of these were undone with the Doctor encountering Clara again in the very next episode but each one provided a potentially permanent exit for the character. Which was your favorite?

I picked the "Hell Bent" one, which I suspect will be the most unpopular one. And because I called that as the likely ending a year before it happened (as my "dream ending" for the character). All the Clara-haters on this forum and elsewhere will whine about it, but I loved it and thought it was fitting for her to zoom off in her own TARDIS.

That said, "Last Christmas" was beautiful and would've been fitting and satisfying had it been the end. Too bad Capaldi and Coleman were such great pals that she decided to do another series.

^ I agree with your thoughts on Last Christmas.

Although maybe I shouldn't have voted without seeing Hell Bent.

Last Christmas, no question. Hell Bent just took a "meh" exit that was the Raven, and made it excruciatingly a long, pondering mess.

I love Hell Bent myself, and loved that ending (I seem to be in the minority who actually likes Me), but I felt Last Christmas was a more heartfelt and satisfying end to the Doctor/Clara relationship. Hell Bent was a close second for me, though. I would totally watch the adventures of Clara, Me, and their TARDIS diner.

Last Christmas was a nice ending.
Hell Bent was just plain weird- While I have no problem with Clara and Me having their own Diner TARDIS and further adventures,
Clara being dead/not dead and the convoluted arrangement which got her to that point was a contrived mess as far as I am concerned.

I also love the idea that she kept on travelling on her own, around the world, and grew to be a good ol' gramma. A very Moffat-y happy ending.

I went with Hellbent, but only because its the best episode overall. None of Clara's exit's were good, but if she had actually died and stayed dead I would have voted for Face the Raven.

Personally, I prefer the very low-key parting of ways in "Death in Heaven," particularly the irony that both of them are lying to each other in an attempt to spare the other's feelings. It's a logical ending for the characters and yet leaves things open for an occasional return appearance, similar to Martha's departure at the end of "Last of the Time Lords."

yeah I went with Death in Heaven as well. Though there would have been a nice symmetry to Last Christmas re her being too old to pull the cracker as Eleven had been. It was a little too much of a riff on Titanic as well.

Reading that made me imagine a scene with old Clara in bed falling asleep and we then seen young Clara in Coal Hill reuniting with Danny, leaving all of us to wonder is this a dream, the afterlife (or Nethersphere), or are we just thinking too hard?

Surely that should be Amy...? Fairly sure that Amy just scrapes in with one more compared to Clara
Nope. Amy was in 33 episodes (34 if you count her cameo in Time of the Doctor), Clara was in 35 episodes (36 since Clara herself first appears in the final scene of The Snowmen). If you want to include other roles Karen Gillan and Jenna Coleman had in Doctor Who, like the Soothsayer for Karen in Fires of Pompeii and the Clara shards from Asylum of the Daleks and The Snowmen for Jenna, then the numbers become 35 for Gillan, 37 for Coleman.

I hated Hell Bent's departure, it was silly. All the others were great however, it's just a shame Hell Bent's departure was the final and binding one...I remember at the time thinking the one in Death in Heaven was perfect and really different, and whilst I enjoyed Clara's character I thought that was a great way to say goodbye. But sadly that didn't work out and she came back....The one in Last Christmas was also nice, a good nod to Time of the Doctor but actually done better, then the one in Face the Raven which I thought was definitely it was emotional and brilliantly executed, annoying how she died considering it'd been easily avoided but it was done brilliantly. Then it just had to be ruined with the ending Hell bent provided....silly and took Clara turning into the Doctor far too literally.
