Fave Character, non-major

Always the villains. Khan or Chang spring to mind. I particularly liked Christopher Plummers idea (or rather his way out of speaking Klingon) that Chang was so educated in his enemy that he'd mostly forgotten how to speak Klingon which excused him breaking into English a few times.

Laurence Luckinbill's (sp?) portrayal of Sybok made him fascinating to watch for me and others on the list would have to be the reluctant hero Zephram Cochrane, the Klingon ambassador from TVH (and TUC I think...), Gorkon and although I think he could have been way more interesting - Shinzon just makes the list.

i always liked my namesake David (merrill butrick) from TWOK and TSFS

Your namesake? You mean your parents named you "David" after Captain Kirk's son? :vulcan:

You never know... it's shocking that my father considered Spock, Leonard, James, Pavel and Montgomery for my name. Which really just confirms he watched too much Star Trek in the 70's.

I can't really complain though as names I put forth for my daughter were Ziyal, Kira, Ezri and before we knew she'd be a she I do recall suggesting Worf to largely negative response.

It's weird. I could never name a kid after a Trek character, but I wouldn't be opposed to pulling a name from great literature (say, "Atticus").

 That's hilarious. So what name did you end up going with? I'm disappointed "Jadzia" wasn't among the names you proposed. :p Sorry about the thread derail folks, but jamestyler's statement just intrigued me. "By all means" (as many a Star Trek character has said), please continue the discussion on-topic.

Saavik as played by Kirstie Alley. Sorry, I've met Robin Curtis and she's a very nice lady, but, her Saavik just left me completely cold.

Jadzia was banned on accounts of both my wife and I finding her very sexually appealing. We went with Ezri. And used her mothers surname, and a variation of her grandmothers name (who we've taught her to call Moogie) which makes her initials EMH. Which makes the geek in me very proud, and the parent in me very disowned when she's older.

I was quite surprised to see how lively Robin Curtis was out of character and she was apparently guided heavily by Nimoy as to how a Vulcan behaves, so I'm not sure if that helped or hindered her performance. But I did prefer Kirstie Alley, but she is arguably a better actress.

On a(nother) sidenote I've only just realised after months of watching Desperate Housewives thinking 'I know that guy' that Dave is rally Lt. Hawk from First Contact. Who I actually remember hoping would stay for future films before he was assimilated.

Though straying back on topic.. I really did enjoy James Cromwell's Cochrane in that movie. A wonderful sense of normality mixing in with an era of 'perfect' people.
