didnt really want to start a thread on this : but ibadked it on another thread and never got any feedback :
i have been watching enterprise after watching voyager and tpol and tyval ate exhausting when explaining their takes on human characteristics , culture etc : made me think about mr spocks : "fascinating" and what a brilliant multi level statement it is and what a perfect monostich to say :so my question is amd was thus:
was that scripted, or was it a nimoy ad-lib like the vulcan greeting gesture ? anyone beside me even care?

From what I have read, it was indeed scripted. In "The Corbomite Maneuver," Nimoy had the line when they first saw the Fasarius but he wasn't sure how to play it. After conferring with director Joseph Sargent, they decided to go with simple curiosity response. Nimoy said a huge part of Spock was born right there.

I'm sure I've gotten a few details wrong, I don't have my notes nearby. :)

I remember Spock's buzzphrase one season as being "highly illogical", then abruptly, it seemed to be replaced with "fascinating", right at the start of the next season-- or so it seemed to me as a kid, watching when originally broadcast.

Nothing would quite have been an ad lib. I think Nimoy was very involved and had a lot of input, but would have discussed and cleared everything ahead of shooting.
