John Broughton mentions that soon the "Homecoming" series finale for "Starship Farragut" will be out, and production has started up again for "Farragut Forward," though he is trying to do it within the guidelines.

Go to Facebook and search under MBL Entertainment Group and find the video goes MARC KNOWS EVERYBODY: JOHN BROUGHTON. I tried to post the link but I can't.

That's interesting. I thought they were moving into more OG work. But glad to hear they're moving forward with Farragut Forward.

I'm quite surprised myself. Thought it was killed when the guidelines dropped. One thing I would like to see this pave the way for would be either James Cawley or Vic Montogna looking at it and deciding to do the Kirk's second five-year mission with the Enterprise - starting shortly after the events of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture." (there's a 14 year gap between TMP and TWOK). They could make those muted pajama-like uniforms with richer colors - sort of like the uniform colors for "The Cage" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before" (at the moment that's wishful thinking, but one might never know).

With James busy with the official set tour, and Vic's reputation/career in the toilet after his harassment scandals became public, I doubt we'll be seeing any New Voyages or STC follow-ups.

Yeah, I heard about Vic being a pain in the butt, but I didn't know he got into all that trouble. And James, well...he's more into the look and feel of TOS than the TMP era, at least from what I know of him.

I spoke to John Broughton at length on the phone a few weeks ago about another matter, but yes, they plan to move "Forward", but they're going to be producing the show differently than in the past. Not gonna say how, as that's up to them to announce.

Yeah, they're going to try to respect the guidelines that CBS/Paramount made back five years ago. Not quite sure how they're going to do it, from what I know.

Well, I was referring to production approaches and not the Guidelines. Re those, few seem to be taking the no ongoing series one very seriously.

Yeah. ViacomCBS hasn't exactly cracked down on that, except for one which had actual TNG footage. I think if they had been more stringent, they'd throw the book at productions like "Star Trek: First Frontier."

A few other things I'm intrigued about (with spoilers for "Homecoming")
Wondering about Broughton's choice for a Miranda-class Farragut (NCC-1921), as was mentioned in the video. We know according to the trailer for "Homecoming" that the original Farragut is to get decomissioned. One thing to note is that the Farragut was never associated with an aircraft carrier in the US Navy, but a destroyer, which might explain a few things.

At this point, I think it’s fairly obvious that the guidelines are there primarily as a safe space, for those who want to use it, and a warning for those who want to try and push the studio’s good will too far. :)

As to Farragut Forward, I am very much looking forward to whatever they do.

I’m curious how they’re going to do the ship sets. If they’re gonna build a few pieces like the 3/4 bridge wedge sans view screen for their previous effort.

I vaguely recall them discussing the difficulties in building the movie sets and wanting to figure out how to build them in a more cost effective manner. I mean before the shut down FF previously when the guidelines first came out.

According to the MBL Entertainment Group video with Mr. Broughton, they're doing a portion of the bridge, not the whole shebang, which doesn't really surprise me. The movie sets are quite a bit more complicated than the TOS sets. In some ways, they're going the route similar to that short-lived "Star Trek Adventure" deal they had at Universal Studios Hollywood back in the late 1980's.

Thanks. I wasn't able to finish the MLB interview so I didn't that far. Did Broughton mention any other sets they'd be building or just the bridge?

And I remember Star Trek Adventure well... I was on those sets as a teen during one Universal Studios visit.

At the moment just the bridge. They might be doing some others. Looks like they'll be using both physical and virtual. He gets into "Farragut Forward" 1:08 into the interview. With the bridge, they're doing the command chair, helm console and chairs, as well as the aft three panels (turbolift, internal security, and environmental engineering) - keep in mind of course the Farragut in "Farragut Forward" is a Miranda-class (one of the Reliant's sister ships). They're not going to do the whole set (at least not yet, if they're able to).

When they go through a slideshow, they say they that "ALL-NEW Sets will blend practical and CGI elements to faithfully reproduce the Classic STAR TREK film experience."

Donny Versiga is a CGI Set Consultant, BTW. You may have seen his work here on Trek BBS (at the moment he's working on the "Star Trek V" Enterprise-A bridge).

Couldn't have a better consultant on the refit-era sets than Donny!

Oh I know. I wasn’t specifically directing the point at you. Sorry if it came off that way. :)

    EXCELLENT NEWS!

The fact we had got to know Captain Carter in 6 Farragut TOS eps (and then some extra pieces - including two new stories faithfully recreating Animated Star Trek!) before thrusing forward into the movie era will make it special, give it depth.

I love the movie era and lamented when Farragut Forward was cancelled after the guidelines came out.
