Farragut Crew Logs:A Rock & A Hard Place

I don't know if anyone has posted on this and I completely missed it, but I had to comment on it.

Starship Farragut released the second of their crew logs. In mid December. I don't think the first was released yet as its release on the web is listed as TBD.

I really enjoyed this romp into the adventures of the Farragut. John Broughton seems to be getting more comfortable in front of the camera and his acting has improved. His co-star D.D. Hatcher (I believe her name was) gave a solid and at times funny performance as Geologist Angela Bishop.
Holly and Mike Bednar, although only on screen briefly, turned in some good performances. I was a little disappointed that Hank Prescott (Paul Sieber)wasn't in this, but maybe next time.

The effects were absolutely beautiful. The Farragut looks majestic and the shuttle craft and shuttle bay sequences are beautifully done.
The music is also nicely done. walking a line between the original series and the movies, it add a rich layer to the production.

Not intended to be a deep story, A Rock and a Hard Place weighs in at just 17 minutes and 30 seconds, but is a light and fun vignette well worth the download and the price of admission.

I like that all of the Farragut team's offerings so far have kept that light, adventurous feel to them.

Great job to the Farragut team and to all the others out there who invest their time, money, and heart and soul into these efforts.

Yeah, I rather enjoyed this little jaunt. My favorite part is when Angela Bishop goes on her rant about Klingons always underestimating human females.

"Just Passing Through" is excellent as well, but unfortunately isn't available on line.

Where'd you get a chance to see it and do you know, by chance, why it's not available on line?

I love the rant about the Klingons and actually laughed out loud a few times during this.

I've become a big fan of Farragut. The acting is nightmarish, yet there's just something very fun about the whole thing. I'm actually sad they're moving out of D.C. to Georgia ... I live in D.C. and just discovered them, right as they're moving. It would have been a blast to help out on one of their projects.

The special effects are the opposite of their acting: probably the best I've seen thus far in a fan film. The shots of the ship in space could come right from a "real" TV show and blow away the "semi-professional" effects of OGAM and either match or surpass Phase II.

One last note on Rock and a Hard Place: Those 1960's miniskirt Starfleet outfits really weren't made for the, um, slightly larger woman.

It seems the episodes are not on farraguts site.

In their download section there are only the full lenght films.

Why dont they give at least a link to a mirror or a stream?

Do I have to search for it on youtube?

The effects are by Michael Struck and the folks at neo fx and I agree that they're the best being done for these films right now.

Dennis, you are making me blush

But, I do appreciate the kind words about the visual effects. While we worked on OGAM as well, it was not on any of the space shots...just the phasers, morphing and "eye" effects.

If you enjoy the live versions, I think you will also enjoy the special edition 'animated' versions coming in a few months (when? before JJ's movie). Check out www.farragut-animated.com

Re: Why "Just Passing Through" is not available online:

In the Farragut forum for "Just Passing Through", the EPs explained that they plan to re-shoot the entire thing as they needed some pickups and were unable to secure the location they used, and it would be more cost-effective to re-do the entire offering.

I agree, love the ship and the shuttlebay sequence. I just wondered about the "puff of air" escaping from the shuttlebay when the doors were opened. Don't they depressurize the bay first....or have a force field in place?

I think the acting has improved (slightly) except for the fight scenes. They are god-awful! Seriously, a bunch of schoolkids on the playground could choreograph better fight scenes than those! :wtf:

Yeah, that uniform was a little too tight for the...um...bigger woman. :)

I really like the Farragut folks. There is something so genuine about their movies. They are not as polished as the movies from the Exeter or NV folks, but they make up for it in their obvious love of all things TOS.

While I am not an expert on space travel, I did actually create that shot for Farragut.

The theory is that, even though they depressurize the bay, opening the door would still releases some gas particles, which would immediately freeze in space and become visible.

If that answer doesn't work, how about because it looks cool ;)

It was never established if TOS ships had a forcefield active when they opened their shuttle bay...My thought is that they do not.

Thanks for the kind words on the effects!
