This could work like Northern Exposure.
It would surely be a crime procedural series like NYPD Blue with half of the show being personal lives of the police dept.
Maybe a single season long story of another kidnapping too.
    Shot in canada outside toronto?

Just what we need: another procedural cop show. *sigh*

Where is it coming from that the show would be a procedural?

It's just an assumption, I gather, as the movie was about a kidnapping investigation, and that seems to be all the networks are interested in these days. Still, if they focused on the characters--like Justified, perhaps---then it might work. The humor, however, might be too quirky for a network like FX, though.

Wasn't there a Fargo pilot with Edie Falco a few years ago?

    Apparently so.

I don't really see the point of reviving the movie as a police procedural. Such an approach seems likely to suck all that was interesting out of the movie in favor of all that is uninteresting on television right now. It's interesting to hear Northern Exposure brought up, because that show was about a doctor, but it was anything but a medical procedural.

My thoughts exactly. CBS alone has enough cop shows to satisfy anyone's tastes for that genre.

FX already has a kick-ass "cop show" (not at all a boring procedural) in Justified. I'd like to see FX do a sci fi show. They had a lot of success with American Horror Story. Some dark, dystopian, violent, crazy sci fi scenario would be perfect for them.

Well, I guess it could work. But what helped make it unique was the cop that was pregnant, so not entirely sure what it could bring to the table beyond what it's already done.

As a movie, a standalone story, it was great but I just don't see Fargo as the basis for a series.

I remember when Fargo came out that there was talk of doing a tv series (due to the success of the movie I guess), but it didn't go anywhere. At the time I thought it would obviously be a comedy and a running joke would be that Marge would always be pregnant. My friends thought that would be too silly, but then Family Guy did it.
Didn't know about the 2003 pilot though.

I wonder if people who don't like sci-fi shows say "Just another sci-fi show. Be original, people" :shifty:

If it's as authentically Minnesotan as the movie? I'd watch it.

Are you kidding? People who do like sci fi say that all the time, like, here.

The show is moving forward, and the Coens are signed as executive producers. The showrunner will be Noah Hawley, who previously worked on Bones and created The Unusuals.
