Yes I know this is a very old game and it came out way back in 2012.

But I'm wondering how in the hell it won so many awards, or do review sites really do get paid to give stellar reviews for games?

First off it's kind of repetitious, once you have liberated a few settlements and climbed a few radio towers and stuff it's pretty much all the same... The bad guys only seem to have 3 or 4 lines of canned dialog that gets repeated ad nauseum..... Some of the voice acting is terrible and the protagonist, well I wish he'd die in a fire. He's a terrible protagonist. Very unlikeable.

I am almost at the half way point in this game and I find myself forcing myself to play this game just to get to the end even though I know how the story plays out.

The only interesting character in the game was Vaas. Everything else is bland and BORING.

    5/10

How the hell this got 10/10 reviews I'll never know.

Meh, I think it's pretty fun. Maybe it came out during a dry spell.

It's fun if you just want to explore the map That's what I like these kind of games for do explore and find places, or find places I'm not supposed to get to and exploit the map...

I forced myself past the mission with Rongo and saving Oliver, but the story, or lack of story is what is making me bored.

It's a sandbox game. Sandbox games aren't known for great storytelling. You're missing 90% of the game if you just go mission to mission to mission and take in the story.

Yeah, I found it horribly repetitious as well (although not as bad as, say, Assassin's Creed 1), but I did force myself to finish it. Later on I acquired a free copy of Far Cry 4 as part of some deal, played it for about an hour, gave up and uninstalled it. Same boring shit.

All that being said, however, you definitely owe it to yourself to play Blood Dragon. It's short and doesn't overstay it's welcome, and is jam-packed with hilarious, neon-soaked 80's action movie nostalgia. :techman:

I'm actually planning on getting that.

Oh did you know in Far Cry 4 if you just sit there for 15 minutes where Pagan Min first meets you he comes back and you walk with him a bit and the game ends. It's an alternate ending.

I was reading about that last night and it does sound like a lot of laughs. I did finish and enjoy the first Far-Cry (and Crysis too), but I've only got round to playing some of the second Far-Cry so far.

I'm playing the very first game again..... The jungle bits were fun. But the game AI was pretty damn dumb at times. But it was fun. Far Cry 2 didn't thrill me. The world felt bland and boring with the same landscape everywhere you go. Plus it felt like it just went on, and on, and on. I never finished that one.

I'm going to force myself to finish 3 and then move onto 4.

The first game feels like a tech demo with a first person shooter slapped onto it as an afterthought.

I played the first one when it came out but the endgame kicked my ass. I only finished it because I cheated and managed to use a chair to wedge the door open. Never played 2 but I liked 3, i thought it was pretty fun, I like the Far Cry combat and use of foliage/cover. 4 was OK but it was basically 3 redux.

4 is very much 3 with elephants, and that's not saying much.

And if you can't be bothered just get the good ending by meeting with Pagan and just loitering for 15 minutes. He comes back you chat, walk about a bit and then game over.

I had fun with 3, 4 and Primal, but I enjoy sandbox game and had fun with the weapons and taking down outposts. But, I'm also bad about fucking around in games destroying shit for the lulz. If that's not the type of game you like, then you definitely won't enjoy Far Cry 3.

I love open worlders where you can just buzz around and cause mayhem without having to worry about missions or reaching the end of the game.

I would have loved had Far Cry 3 had more destructible environments like the Just Cause games. Fire is a joke, buildings don't burn down when you set them on fire, but they just still stand there unaffected.

Not sure which game it was but there was a game that let you kill any character at any point of the game and it didn't penalize you for doing so. So I could have killed Vaas and Hoyt on my own without the missions had they had that kind of open worldness about them. Plus those boss fights were a bit of a joke....... "wait for button prompt and mash button" that's not a fight.

However having said that I love the game world and the tropical scenery... It's a fun place just to explore.
