Far Cry 2

Mr Light

Admiral
Admiral
I've been playing this game for the past week. I'm not very happy with the controls... or the way the map works... or the combat and how you can't see the bad guys at all... or how huge the maps are and how long it takes to get anywhere...

But as the missions go on it is getting more enjoyable. And I just got a new gun that is really powerful AND carries 400 rounds which makes the combat much more palatable.

Anyway I just hit a roadblock. I did the green house mission:
Act 1 - Attack the Greenhouse (UFLL Mission)

Mission Details: The APR is providing security for some European agribusiness. They’re protecting some greenhouses in the foothills to the east. The UFLL wants me to shut down the operation. I gotta reach the farm and destroy the greenhouse irrigation system.

And at the end of the mission my buddy, the foreign blonde girl, keeps dying! She does the defoliant crop-dusting in the prop plane, and the plane crashes, and I rush over to her crash site and give her the shot, she asks for more. I give her a second shot, and she's still on the ground. I give her a third shot, and she dies. I've tried this sequence three seperate times now, thinking I took too long getting to her. The 2nd and 3rd times I got to her the second she was downed by the troops, but everytime she dies. I tried just injecting once or twice but she still remains writhing on the ground.

Is this an unavoidable story point, that your buddy dies here? Or am I doing something wrong? It really pisses me off because she's my only buddy and I like her accent and smile! :p

Hmm very strange.
I in fact just finished the green house mission but I don't have a blond lady to save.
My buddy crashes calls for help, I help him and I've moved on to a new mission.

If you haven't already gotten the camo suit do so, it helps quite a bit.
Also use the bus stations whenever possible, it cuts quite a bit of aggravation out of the game.
I hate clearing out an intersection or base only to have the guys re-spawn the instant you leave the area. Very bad game design.

I also have the dragonov sniper rifle. With the camo suit on you can sit a bit of a distance outside a base or check point and pretty much clear an area if you're quick enough not to get zero-ed in on.

Apparently when you choose which character you play it randomizes what NPC buddies you get the in the game, so everybody gets different characters. I actually just discovered the buses and it does help. Unfortunately it's impossible to read what those tiny little things on the map say so I could never tell which one was the bus before. I swear 360 games are designed to make the text impossible to read if you don't have a flat screen plasma hi-def TV... :p Same problem with Halo 3 and Mass Effect!

Oh you must be talking about the "buddy" that helps you when you are down.
Did you save right before the phone call?

The easiest way to use the buses is to pull your PDA up look at where your mission is then pick the "Red Dot" closest to your mission.
I also find that if you drive out in the outskirts of the maps you have less confrontations with baddies.

That's my other problem, I haven't been going to weapons dealers because I can't tell which icon is theirs on that stupid map, which means I'm just using picked up rebel weapons which suck. I don't have the camo net and I had a sniper rifle at one point but I lost it.

I've found that if you swap the weapon out in the room next to the dealer shops it makes them last a whooole lot longer.
I was also using the dart gun quite a bit as it kills long range silently.
As long as you kill the guy out of sight of other baddies they don't get alerted.
The only problem with the dart/sniper rifle is it only holds four shots, even with all the upgrades. very stoopid.

I love the game (have it for Xbox360). Unfortunately, the darn game froze at a certain point, and the saves are corrupted. This is apparently a very common problem, and Ubisoft has yet to release a patch fixing it. I don't really like the multiplayer that much, so if they don't release a fix soon, I'm just going to take it to Gamestop and trade it in toward something else. My patience is wearing thin.

The fix actually came out 2 days ago.

All you need is a flamethrower. After 20 hours of play I still laughed myself stupid everytime I accidentally started a raging inferno that resulted in me getting trapped

One of biggest gaming letdowns in my life...

Shooting engine can never make its mind up though the amount of bullets to kill someone is the main problem. AI seems decent but they have that typical UBISOFT trait of being able to see you even if there not looking in your direction, a game in this sort of terrain screams being perfect for stealth.

Open ended world and you can't use cars on road because you coem across some AI every few mins who shoots you, they should of had green zones etc or factions like in Stalker. WORST part of game is when you clear a section and soon as you leave it come back 10 seconds later FULLY RESTOCKED with enemies.

boring missions average gameplay PATHETIC ideas, that game producer wants shooting.

Hated this game. I can't save whenever I want. WTF. if my car gets blown up I have to run to get to my mission. I can't aim. Total waste of my life and my time playing this.

I think the buddy is supposed to die there. The mission they list after that and the next opposing faction mission is the one that got me a new buddy. The one who would save me when I die now becomes the main buddy and the new one is the "save you if you die" one.

if my car gets blown up I have to run to get to my mission. I can't aim.
These are also my main complaints about the game! I get so pissed when the car is destroyed or more often stuck on a rock then I have to walk for five minutes. Jeez.

I like this game, but I really hate having to drive around. Like from Fallout 3, it needs a "fast forward to place X" button. Sorry needed because driving around and getting shot at by random guys is so stupid it get really old.

I figured out why I could never get a weapons dealer mission. I only ever came across them when I was out doing a mission, and the dealer won't appear if you're doing a mission. So I need to finish my current mission and go out just to see a dealer if I want nicer guns!

There's only one point (AFAIK) where your buddy is supposed to die, and that's at the end of the first half of the game - you'll know it even before it happens, because you're given a choice between two equally grim-seeming options. Until (and after) then, they're always able to be rescued.

FC2 is a game where a few annoying points really detract from a lot of really good ones. The environments are amazing (can't wait to see them in HD when I get a new TV), the enemy AI can be nastily smart, and there are a hundred and one fun ways to screw around killing people once you realise that - for example - IEDs can be stuck to pretty much anything, static or mobile. But the rapid respawns are a pain in the ass, the "you're working in secret so both factions will shoot you on sight" approach is lazy and linear, and the sheer amount of driving can get as tedious as actual commuting.

Sounds like most of the complaints here are along the lines of the fact that a game whose key selling point was its open-world nature is in fact open-world.

No the compliant is for an open ended world, it feels restricted and uneven.

My new buddy died AGAIN. I did the mission all the way over but no matter how quickly I get to him the bastard still dies! It's the same way the first girl died, one shot doesn't help them, two shots don't help them, three shots kills them! Christ! And this time I didn't get a new buddy right away. Can you get new buddies at the bar? Where is the bar? ... Well I'm finally doing the weapons dealer missions. Still waiting for that cameo net to show up!

That game sucks ass. I was looking forward to it before release, tried to play it a couple of times but it's just complete garbage. I won't even take it back to gamestop and trade it in because I'm embarrassed to be seen with it.

The controls and especially the aiming make me rather play COD, every two minutes I have to defend myself from some asshole who thinks he's in a Road Warrior movie, and every fucking douche with a AK in the game has 20/20 vision. Just a tedious piece of shit. About the only things I like in the game are the scenery and the music, everything else if FUBAR.
