fan films

The fan films are here. Some are real good, some are really good. And some are well, best not to be mentioned. The studio owning star trek has gone after heavily since the new verse started.

Some I have liked, Gods and Men, that was good and enjoyable. It had the spirit of star trek, and it used so much of the old enterprise I was happy. And it used our beloved actors in a respectful way. And allowed them to be the real charecters.
Axenar created charecters, and covered something we felt was important to star trek. The legend of Garth of Ixnar. The man that Kirk worshipped and emulated a lot. It was done so well its amazing.
Then renegades can be used to sum up the rest.

Degrading to star trek, to both the charecters, the actors, and the audience. Taking original actors and making them mockeries of their actual charecters. The future borg, somehow stolen by section 31 and forced to become a more human like mercenary...
And then I think its renegades that has a certain beloved member of the original bridge crew promising that if enough money is raised for another episode.. hell say "nuclear wessels" again.

Hello Topcat. I kind of not see the point you are making. We already know that Fan-Films exist since a long time. As this is a discussion board... What exactly did you want to discuss? :vulcan:

I realise the extent to which this franchise is loved by fans, but honestly ... if I had good resources, I'd much rather make my own, original sci-fi movie, than try to ape what STAR TREK's been giving us since before Time began. Even the celebrated Fan Films tend to be really bad, maybe it's just a comparative thing these positive reviews are based on ... I don't know. I've tried giving a few Fan Films a go ... it's just very hard to get into. It's like they bite off much more than they can chew, most of the time ... even with their new and improved videogame graphics.

So, there's a fan-productions forum here, where this should have been posted, since the subject has nothing to do with Future of Star Trek.

And since your post is basically you saying how you feel about fan films without any sense that you want to have a discussion about it, maybe you should make a blog instead, since nobody reads those anymore other than the person making the blog ;)

It does concern the future.
With axenar you have something that's almost as good technically as most of the captain proton espisodes of voyager. The special effects are better then some in the original movies.
And in some cases the plots, directing, and acting are worse and more insulting to the charecters then the worst episodes of voyager were. Heck, some of the fan film projects are worse the finale of Enterprise in all regards.
And why is it pertinent? Well these films are being created by people who claim they are trying to uphold THE VISION as dictated by Roddenberry. Some go beyond the vision, and others fall so short as to never get off the grounds.
The majority are made by people who lambaste the Nu Trek as insulting to the audient, the vision, and the characters, But yet ironically do that themselves.
Sure into darkness and star trek 2009 have holes, bad plots, bad acting, and don't always give the actors much to work with, but they don't insult the charecters OR the actors.
The thing about renegades is abusing Koenig to do the bad pronunciation schtick about pronouncing nuclear vessels wrong. Koenig hated that. But yet the all loving "fan made" show abuses that about him.

So.... you are saying that people should stop making fan films, if they don't live up to YOUR view of what Star Trek is supposed to be? Or do not meet the quality standards of a professional production? Because they hurt the vision of Gene Roddenberry?

Genes Vision includes - if not centers - tolerance. You seem to imply you do not tolerate "bad" fan-films. A lot of todays very well produced productions started "bad". Look at the unofficial Pilot of New Voyages, or The Captaincy from Farragut. They all reached a relativelly high production standard after a while. Then there are the ones that were really promising, but never returned for a second installment, like Phoenix for instance.

I am not criticizing here, I am just still puzzled what you actually want to say... As long as CBS still allows Fan Films to be made....

Indeed. The overall point seems to be confused.

I'm not a fan (no pun intended) of all fan films, but I love it when they are produced. They are fascinating insights in to other individuals' viewpoint on Trek. As for "Gene's Vision" that all depends on which vision you choose to embrace, and at which point in Gene's life it occurs.

As stated above, one of his primary visions was tolerance. I don't like all the fan films, or agree with all the production teams, but I certainly think they all can have some merit or at least fun in watching.

tl:dr :shrug::confused:
