Family trees and lineages of Star Trek characters

Kim is an extremely common Korean last name though, like over 20% of the population of South Korea has it as their family name.
Kim and Park are to the Koreas what Smith and Jones are to the United States. The names are so common that most people with them are not related to each other.

Yes, we get it. No one was saying that just because two people are named Kim that they must be or are likely to be related, it was just a dumb little game of making far-fetched connections. We're all very impressed with your knowledge of Korean surnames and need to make unnecessary corrections, twice.

Potential Star Trek Familes:

Kim Family:
* Young Jae Kim - Commanded a DY-500-B sleeper ship, the HMS Lord Nelson, in the early 22nd century. One of the last active ship commanders for the Royal Navy
* B. Y. Kim - Daughter of Young Jae, she and her brother followed her father's service into the Royal Navy, and later Starfleet, as sleeper ship commanders themselves. B. Y. later was promoted into the top echelons of Starfleet, becoming a huge promoter of Section 31 from within Starfleet Command.
* Hideaki "Daniel" Chang - Husband of B. Y., he was a MACO who perished during the Romulan War when assigned to the Enterprise NX-01. He died during a rare joint mission with the Klingons, and the Klingon Captain even named his secondborn son after Chang, following his sacrifice.
* Albert Kim - The son of B. Y. and Hideaki Chang, who grew up on sleeper ships, he enlisted in Starfleet's Command Training Program in the 2250s, to follow his mother's footsteps. Later transferred to the Enterprise for a succesful career spanning decades.
* Jae "Jack" Kim - The eldest son of Young Jae, Jack was one of the last sleeper ship commanders before its retirement by Starfleet in the early 23rd century, against protests by the ECS and UESPA on its practical utility in saving ships resources. "Uncle Jack", as he was well-known, survived well into the 24th century thanks to his overuse of stasis chambers. Like his sister, he was instrumental in the top-secret Crossfield Refit Project of the 2250s.
* Luisa Kim - Daughter of Jack, Luisa grew up to have a prosperous career in terraforming.
* Dennis Kim - Son of Jack, Dennis would retire to a terraformed planet in the Demilitarized Zone, only to become a victim of Cardassian and later Maquis violence.
* Joshua Kim - Son of Jack, Joshua was a civilian researcher on the Enterprise-D and worked closely with the Cetaceans. He was godfather and namesake to the Beluga Lieutenant Kimolu.
* Sun Chang - Son of Albert, Sun was a member of TAC Command in Starfleet. He changed his name to reflect his celebrated Romulan War-era ancestor.
* John Kim - The twin brother of Sun Chang, John relocated to South Carolina on the advice of his cousin Luisa, but worked remotely as a civilian advisor to Starfleet.
* Mary Kim - Wife of John Kim, Mary was a South Carolina native from a long line of humanitarian philanthropists.
* Dorothy Chang - Daughter of Sun Chang, killed in service aboard the USS Equinox when it was stranded in the Delta Quadrant.
* Harry Sun Luis Kim - Son of John and Mary. An ensign in Starfleet, I believe.

Park Family:
* Linda Park - A communications officer with Fleet Operations Center in San Francisco in the 22nd century.
* Jana Park - Great-granddaughter of Linda, a Starfleet officer and Captain of the USS Atlantis in the 24th century. Killed during a lice infestation.

Smith Family:
* Cooper Smith - The Liberator of North Star. Abducted by Skagarans in the 19th century from Earth.
* Reginald Smith - A grandson of Cooper Smith from before his abduction, Reginald relocated to England in his youth and joined the BBC during the 1930s.
* Cooper Smith VI - The last direct descendant of the Liberator, this Cooper Smith was later rescued from a Skagaran colony in the Delphic Expanse
* Craig Smith - A North Star colonist, adopted by Cooper VI, who later joined the MACOs, and then Starfleet, during the Romulan War. Died without issue when the USS Franklin disappeared in the 2160s.
* Melissa Warry-Smith - Granddaughter of Cooper VI, was a senior official at Starfleet Tactical shortly before the Klingon War of 2257.
* Barbara (Warry-)Smith - Daughter of Melissa, Barbara served in Starfleet as a Yeoman. Later founded the Diet Smith Corporation, named for her late husband.
* Rebecca Smith - Granddaughter of Barbara, Rebecca served in Starfleet as a tactical officer.

Jones Family:
* Price Jones - A human abducted during World War III and later died on Terralysium.
* Cyrano Jones - A human trader from Deneva, and descendant of Price's children who were not abducted to Terralysium
* Miranda Jones - Sister of Cyrano, her family disowned him and she later lived several years on Vulcan.
* Ann Jones Mulhall - Sister of Cyrano and Miranda, she was married at a young age and later divorced to pursue a career in astrobiology and Starfleet.
* Katherine Mulhall Pulaski - Granddaughter of Ann Mulhall, who followed her grandmother's example and joined Starfleet.
* Cyrano Jones III - Descendant of Cyrano, who became a well-decorated Starfleet lieutenant on the Enterprise-D and Deep Space 9.
* Price Jones - Twin brother of Cyrano III, who never joined Starfleet, he accompanied his brother on the Enterprise-D to serve as a waiter for a time, and later became a champion boxer.
* Cyrano Jones IV - Son of Cyrano III, he joined the crew of the USS Voyager for his first assignment as a crewman, and was stranded in the Delta Quadrant.

These are all tongue-in-cheek, of course. I did a similar thought experiment with the Burkes in Star Trek a few years ago.

My word it suffers from small universe syndrome. There's nothing wrong with it as a bit of fun. I bring up every now and then how I wanted to connect the "God" from "Justice" as a counterpart to the Lysian Command Centre from "Conundrum", since they were the same prop. But then I wondered whether I had to connect the city in "Justice" to Starfleet HQ or the academy since they were the same set. Sometimes a name is just a name. With that, I was kinda bummed I couldn't connect Colonel West to Odo somehow. The idea of a Changeling being in the Alpha Quadrant 80 years before Dominion first contact seemed pretty cool.

The universe is collapsing in on itself! Where's Wesley Crusher when you need him?
I feel like there's almost an analogy there: Wesley (a writer) creates a new universe (fanfic) about his mum and but the universe starts shrinking (small universe syndrome) and will be destroyed (reader apathy) and the only way to survive... is to team up with your superhero mentor to bring her back to reality and then throw the fanfic in the trash...?

How about this one: The Capt. of one of the disabled ships in Star Trek 4 The Voyage Home (I think it was called the Saratoga and the capt. was played by Madge Sinclair) was an ancestor to Silva LaForge, capt. of the Hera and mother of Geordi LaForge.

Why stop at Small Universe Syndrome, when we could go all the way to Crazytown and have the Saratoga (NCC-1887) get Bozeman'ed (NCC-1941) or something into the 24th century so that her captain is Geordi's mother?

Genetic engineering is verboten, but cloning is commonplace. The Federation has a set of about 250 popular clones to choose from, for those unable or unwilling to conceive a child. They even adjust for different species, not just humans, and have shared the DNA sequences of the more popular ones in peace treaties with the Klingons and Cardassians over the centuries.

The Maxwell Forrest template is especially popular amongst the Klingons, but has been adapted for use by Romulans as well (we all know they love cloning).

I do kinda wish the Saratoga from STIV and DS9 were the same ship, especially since it's the same design. These ships in the magical future should be functioning for centuries.

*family tree of Starships totally counts in this thread*
