Family Guy/American Dad/The Cleveland Show

There have been three shows produced by Seth McFarland: Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show.

I've heard some say certain shows are funnier than the others, some shows have gone downhill, some are bad...etc....

Are you a fan of any of these shows? Not a fan?

I caught the latest Family Guy episode (IIRC, something about Stewie being in a coma, due to Chris and Meg's mishap)....and I thought it was one of the funniest episodes in a long time.

American Dad is pretty funny, but not as funny as FG (when FG is good); too, I'm not a fan of the character Roger.

The Cleveland Show is interesting, but it's not really 'laugh out loud'...(I 'hear' it's popular, but I don't know)...

AD and TCS seem to have the formulaic family, based on what we've seen with FC: Eccentric father, wife who is deemed attractive by characters on either show, crazy son, young daughter, sarcastic 'son' (which in AD's case is a fish)...
 
I still enjoy Family Guy, even though its quality isn't what it used to be. I think Peter is at a stage now where you either love him or hate him - at times I find him very grating. I know the humour isn't particularly smart a lot of the time, but it makes me laugh.

I think I prefer American Dad though, which I think has grown to be better than FG. I find the characters far more likeable.

I only watched The Cleveland Show's pilot and thought it was dull, so haven't given it another chance. Is it worth another shot?
 
I still like Family Guy when I catch an episode, but I don't go out of my way to watch it or anything.

I gave American Dad a chance in the first season, but it never really grabbed me. I just didn't think it was all that funny.

I have no intention of giving The Cleveland Show a chance. It might end up being okay, but I'm not just interested.
 
I watch Family Guy occasionally. It used to be very funny, but now it tries to hard to be offensive. South Park can be offensive and subtle, but FG forces it down your throat.
 
I still like good episodes of Family Guy.
American Dad can be decent at times.
I have yet to find The Cleveland Show to be funny, even though Cleveland was always one of my favorite characters on FG.
 
South Park, subtle? Interesting use of that word, it's not one I recognize. South Park beats you over the head with a sledge hammer about its talking points, and that's when it's just not stating them outright over and over. I guess I'm mildly irked it co-opted the 'Family Guy is not funny' line, because when I say that it has been assumed I'm a South Park fan (I'm not).

I was never a fan of Seth MacFarlane and yet his shows are also very watchable, in a way South Park really never managed to be. He can be offensive, certainly, frequently either to be edgy or to hammer a point home (often at the expense of being funny in either case) but he does occasionally hit the right sort of stupid gag.

Peter Griffin singing "Surfing Bird" obsessively until segueing into questioning a guy whether or not he's Jesus is a case in point. The abuse of Meg can also be funny; there's a cruel, mean streak in Seth MacFarlane's humour that can induce laughs when used right.

I don't distinguish between his shows because from what I've seen they're virtually interchangeable, although American Dad fans seem to insist the show's humour is very different (it's less dependent on cutaway gags, but I think it's still fundamentally the same sort of humour).

However, mostly, MacFarlane is aggressively unfunny.

That's probably why I like it a bit more, as the cutaways on Family Guy have grown very hit and miss. Surfin Bird did my head in as I thought it was a very funny gag that was just run into the ground.
 
The Cleveland Show is just more Family Guy. Fewer manatee jokes, but otherwise Cleveland is just a milder peter, and his family are just versions of their equivalent Griffins. There haven't been any GREAT episodes of this show, but really, it's just more Family Guy.

American Dad used to be good when it was a parody of conservative values. It rarely does that anymore. Stan is a shadow of his FBI self, and various episodes have watered down his character to just a charcature of himself. I barely noticed the lack of episodes while FG and TCS have had new ones.

Family has really funny bits and can poke fun at current events almost as they happen. The bit where they mixed in Peter with the Bale on the Terminator set was great. But more and more it's just mindless garbage. I don't bother watching anymore.

American Dad had some mildly funny moments, and Patrick Stewart, but.... meh. I quickly stopped caring.

I never tried TCS.
 
Family Guy has lost some steam but I still love it. AmDad has slowly improved and I enjoy it a great deal now. Cleveland... meh. It'll get better with time.
 
I watched Family Guy until a several episodes into this season and decided to give it up. The show is not as funny as it used to be and I needed to ditch some shows from my weekly viewing. I prefered Stewie when he was evil though I might watch specials like Star Wars, Star Trek episodes etc.

American Dad is the funniest of all 3 and orignally I decided to keep watching but it made by chop because I simply watch too much TV to keep up. I will probably catch up on American Dad in the future.

Cleveland show started much funnier than I expected and the bear makes me laugh but its not enough to make me a die hard fan.
 
this does not really apply to American Dad, but why is the talking animals on Family Guy & The Cleveland show are in no way seen as something specail.

We clearly see that for the most part this ability is unique to them, yet they hold down jobs, go about day to day life, even have relationships with humans, who seem totally unphased by the notion of a talking dog, or talking bear.

Why are people not more amazed by Brian or the two bears on The Cleveland Show?

and is it possible im over thinking this?
 
I love Family Guy and have all the DVD's. Easily one of my all-time favorite shows.

I tried to like American Dad many times, but could never make that happen.

Other than the catchy theme song, I don't like The Cleveland Show at all. I still can't believe Fox went for that character of all the characters to have a spin-off. Going after a certain demographic maybe? Anyway, I always thought Cleveland and Chris were by far the two most throwaway characters. What's next, The Chris Griffin Hour?

On a side note, overall I really enjoyed that little variety show Seth and Alex had that one week. I thought it had some really funny moments.
 
American Dad has its moments but it's nothing that justifies die hard viewing.

The Cleveland Show just doesn't grip me. Granted, I've only seen a couple episodes and none that focus on the bears (who I'm told are the only worthwhile characters on the series).

Family Guy is no longer a funny show. However, it is occasionally a very funny assemblige of unrelated non sequiturs. When it works, it's the best of the 3.

However, none of these shows are as good as South Park or The Simpsons in its prime.
 
I find The Cleveland Show has had a few episodes which were better than Family Guy. Although, this past weekend, everyone had an anverage and subpar episode.
