Familiar faces crossing over

I think the production team said that once Season 1 was out of the way, familiar faces could be appearing in Discovery.

We have Sarek, Amanda and Mudd all recast. This show is set a decade before TOS so may others need recasting or actors from the Kelvin Timeline? Quinto, Cho & Urban still do TV (compared to Pegg, Pine and Saldana who are mainly doing blockbuster movies exclusively now) so having him as Spock could pull people in. Ore we could have Enterpise folk in heavy makeup to play their older selves?

Also there is the possibility of a time travel story, and recasting people as ancestors.

Wait, wait... are you suggesting...
that Admiral Katrina Cornwell is Lethe? If so, that is an amazing fan theory.
Several people are pushing that in the past week..........The episode title matching the characters name from Dagger of The Mind...........I actually went back and watched the episode. It is a cool theory and writers would earn cool points from me. I blew it off to start with but the hair style is similar.....adding it to the wait and see pile. They would HAVE to realize the title matched a character from the past........

Given that this is an era close to one already known to us, we are more or less expecting to see familiar faces. How realistic are those expectations?

Folks like Sarek are important to the universe and justified in appearing. Basically, so are all those interchangeable Admirals from TOS, but we have nothing invested in them emotionally.

Folks like Pike are peanuts, lacking in justification for appearing, unless one is expressly given. And now we hear that Constitution class ships are important, and a main character has a pseudo-sibling aboard the Enterprise, so suddenly it makes sense to have Pike. Although whether he should look like Greenwood or more like Hunter is debatable.

The rest is secondary effects. Now that we have Sarek, we need Amanda and Spock and perhaps T'Pring and T'Pau and so on. If we get Pike, what else do we "have" to get?

So far, there are no other primary or secondary "musts" there. We got Mudd but that creates no obligations (besides Stella). Lorca, Stamets, Tilly and the lot aren't related to previously known characters. But any new character dropped on our laps might be of primary importance (we got Mudd "without justification", but we might get somebody else "with justification", say, the young Kor who could be expected to be a big part of this war where his dad or somesuch is a big boss), or sprout sudden secondary importance despite being a nobody (say, we get the utterly insignificant captain of USS Republic and thus perhaps get Kirk and Finney in the package, too).

Looking forward to how such things might be handled. Not disappointed at all if what we have now is all we get. Except for Spock. We need Spock. And quite possibly Quinto.

As for hairstyles, they already pulled a fast one on us with Carol Marcus' Dehner-style 'do... (Although that was a slightly different "they".)

I don't know how, but I totally missed this theory until now (and searches for it online prove fruitless, atm). That's what I get for taking a couple days off before seeing the episode. I assumed (and still kinda do) that the title was just poetic license and has nothing to do with the character.

Like you said, we’ve already seen Sarek, Amanda and Mudd
and perhaps Lethe.
How many more familiar faces do we need/do they mean?
My Trekkie senses are tingling with delight at the prospect of this being true. My mind is racing with possibility's for why and how she ended up there with a different (nick?-) name.

For 50 years many episodes of Star Trek featured stories that dropped hints of past events, leaving us needing to imagine the events that led them there but that may be changing with Discovery.

I suspect, and hope, Discovery is setting itself on course to deliver backstory for just about everyone and every event we only ever saw the endgame of in TOS, (and TNG era?) New encounters excepted, any story that felt like a continuation or conclusion to past events could be fair game here for an origin story.

Of course, if true, whether that is a good thing or not is up to each of us individually to decide.

A wish list: Robert April, Anton Karidian (and daughter), Richard Daystrom, maybe even Gary Seven and Isis? Or other agents in their organization?

Considering Lorca was apparently on the original manhunt for Kodos, that could a very interesting encounter, especially if Lenore is involved.
