Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix

Anyone else watching this? It's completely bonkers. I liked Bruce Greenwood before, but he is stellar in this as is Carla Gugino. Henry Thomas is good, but maybe a little miscast.

It's pretty gruesome, but not nearly as gory or explicit as the Boys. I like how they've woven Poe tidbits and lore in and out of the story.

We're watching the Haunting of Hill House right now, so we're going to wait, lest we be horribly confused as to which show we're watching with Carla Gugino in a spooky house.

Three episodes in and so far highly recommended. Greenwood and Carl Lumbly are delivering a masterclass in acting. The Poe "easter eggs" are clever.

My only warning would be that if you don't like seeing animals of any kind hurt and/or in danger, you might consider skipping it (I think that is sufficiently vague so as to not count as a spoiler).

If I have a minor quibble so far, its that Zach Gilford (whom I like as an actor a lot) in no way resembles, in looks, voice and/or mannerisms, a young Bruce Greenwood. But I'll chalk that up to the fact that he was originally cast to play a young Frank Langella.

Almost done with Bodies. Then starting this one. What Poe other works does this pull from? There isn’t much in Fall of House of Usher.

I agree. I missed some lines or something responding to emails and didn't even get who he was supposed to be for the first few episodes.

Finished it this morning. Just incredible. That it probably sits behind Hill House and Midnight Mass for me says more about how amazing those shows were than any detriment to Usher, and who knows repeat viewings might see it leapfrog Midnight Mass but don't think Flanagan will ever top Hill House. The only real flaw the show has is that its rarely scary the way those other shows were, and frankly Bly Manor had it's moments but it's still a distant fourth on the list for me.

I'm waiting for the collected stories based on the hit Netflix series to show up at the bookstore.
I know you were joking that it was the other way around, but they did actually release a tie-in book of of the "stories that inspired the hit Netflix series".

I didn't know that. I loved the way that each episode was written around a Poe story, but there were so many references and scenes scattered throughout that I know I've missed some of the more obscure ones.

I just finished the series. It was so well done that I'm glad I took the time to watch it all in a week. As for the stories and poems, most of them I'm very familiar with, but others I haven't read in decades and there were a couple I've never read at all. I'm definitely going back to this series sometime in the next year or so and will brush up on my Poe before doing so.

Why? It’s all in public domain. And you can get Kindle versions over at Project Gutenberg.
I'm not waiting to buy it--I was just thinking there was a market for a volume like that and making a sarcastic remark about how Netflix should jump on that--then drt mentioned it had already been done.
