FACT TREK's Back…& That's A Fact

The weird thing is, I recently took one of those online surveys that calculate what your dialect is, and even though I've lived my entire life in Cincinnati, Ohio, the computer claimed my dialect corresponds to the Washington, DC area.
We all sound ''normal'' to ourselves without thinking of or noticing our own dialects. I still wonder how I sound to my Bostonian cousins.:borg:

Dialect tests always stumble on me, because I'm Albertan. Even in America people think I sound like an American, because everyone things Canadians sound like Vancouver or Ottawa...

I've been in Ottawa for forty years, but I've lived in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, Alberta, and PEI. I can't say I ever noticed much of a difference in the larger cities -- if you dropped me in Vancouver, Edmonton, or Toronto blindfolded I'm not sure I'd hear much difference from what I hear in Ottawa. (I get back to Edmonton once a year or so.) But I do hear it in smaller towns across the country. I don't always hear much of a difference in Halifax, either, though I sure do in Pictou.

As to what I sound like... pretty generic, I think, but who knows. Mom with a small town Nova Scotia accent, Dad with a Quebec French accent (when I was young; he's barely got a hint of an accent now when speaking English), and bouncing around Canada for 23 years before ending up here...

Also: Wrangler, huh? I may well have read some mention of it in some Star Trek nonfiction book but it isn't ringing any bells. I'm intrigued.

Wrangler was a summer replacement series that appears to have aired seven episodes. There are copies at UCLA but we haven't watched them, yet.
