Those illustrations were interesting, but it wasn’t Star Trek. They looked like Trek as seen through a Star Wars aesthetic lens. Interesting, though, is that every time I see that concept of the Enterprise I see the genesis of the 1701D long before it seems to have been the basis for the DSC ship.

There were two designs batted around, the wide one with the smallish nacelle that Discovery riffed on, and the narrower one with the bigger engines, which i liked better.

Ken Adam's sketches point to his future Moonraker aesthetic whereas McQuarrie's renderings look like Star Wars because, well, McQuarrie. Meddings' work evokes Gerry Anderson, for obvious reasons.
