Back in '91 there was a 25th Anniversary airing of TOS, and each episode was introduced by (at least) William Shatner (that I remember) and possibly Leonard Nemoy (can't remember too well). They also showed outtakes, interviews, and behind-the scenes stuff. One outtake I remember vividly is Kirk jumping into Spock's arms like a baby and Spock running off holding him, both of them laughing giddily.
...If I understand the history correctly, Shatner did a large chunk of the episode intros/filler and then Nimoy did a very similar chunk of them during a subsequent run of the series, with neither of them doing it for the whole series. The version floating around the net has both runs (Shatner's & Nimoy's) together for each "episode" they both did.
Actually, Nimoy was hired by SciFiChannel (U.S.) to host the "Special Edition" of STAR TREK.
This was to be uncut runs of the episodes, shown in a 90minute time slot, with all sorts of "extras"...and extra commercials...to fill out the full hour and a half.
He did all his host segments, and then suddenly Shatner got interested, and offered his services. SciFi jumped at the chance to have "The Captain" as a host, and they did a whole extra set of intros and host segments for each episode, this time with Shatner.
Despite Nimoy having been on board first and having filmed his bits first, they decided to begin airing the "Special Edition" with Shatner as host.
They did that run, then began another whole run of the series, using the Nimoy segments.
Unfortunately, the presentation was by no means "Special" (SciFi was doing things like breaking into scenes for commercial breaks, sometimes running only a minute or two of the show before going to commercials again, etc.), and by the time Nimoy's run began, people were less than enchanted.
Ratings fell, and one week the "Special Edition" disappeared from the schedule, being replaced by regular, "cut for more commercials" showings in a regular one hour time slot.
I've heard that Leonard was FURIOUS. He'd been hired first when Shatner showed no interest, and yet HIS was the run that got shown after the fact, and then got cut off maybe half way thru.
The majority of the host segments with Nimoy never got seen, and SciFi never aired the "Special Edition" again.
This is why there aren't as many copies of the host segments with Nimoy around as Shatner. They both hosted all of the episodes, but a huge chunk of Leonard's never got aired.
