Ethan Peck cast as DSC's Spock

Per Variety: Ethan Peck cast as Spock

"A veteran TV actor, Peck has been cast to play the iconic Starfleet officer Spock in season two of CBS All Access drama “Star Trek: Discovery.”

"Peck’s TV credits include roles on “Madame Secretary,” “Gossip Girl,” “10 Things I Hate About You,” and “That ’70s Show.”

Of note: he's Gregory Peck's grandson.

Interesting casting choice. I've been aware of him before, he's Greg Peck's grandson.

He has more of a square-jawed look, than Nimoy's unique horseface look, but might work for a reinvented Spock.

So now we know who Pike, Spock, and Number One will be played by. From the previews, I'm not overly impressed with the Pike character. Peck looks like he will be a proper looking Vulcan, and with a hot blond as Number One, at least know what a potential Pike/Enterprise crew would resemble.

My understanding from TOP SOURCES is to get around copyright issues - this Spock will have a mo-hawk and have a mouth like an open sewer:

''logical ? F*** your logical".

The big question for me is - what's he like at screaming THE WOMEN!

Actors are just actors. They don't need to look exactly like the character.

We were lucky with Anson Mount, but Rebecca doesn't look anything like Majel, and Frain doesn't look anything like Mark Leonard.

So there's a precedence on STD for a different looking Spock than Nimoy.

One interesting note about Peck though is he is a bulky dude. He isn't a beanpole like Nimoy or how Spock was traditionally presented. He was often one of the names I saw fancast for Superman or Shazam.

Maybe Spock will be reinvented to be more of a rugged action hero type like Kirk.

You're looking too much into this.

I don't know about it. When I first saw Quinto I was like "Yes, I can definitely see it." This guy....I dunno. Maybe.

If Spock were a main character or this were one of the films, I'd probably put him under more of a microscope but since he's not a main character and this is lower profile, I think it's "good enough", unless there's a problem with his acting. I've never seen anything he's been in, except That '70s Show and I don't remember what episode(s) he was in, so I have no idea.

It's good to know this Spock is a bit more muscular. Some shirtless scenes would be nice to see.

I think he does look a bit more like Leonard than Quinto, but it could just be me. I never got the 'young Nimoy' vibes that everyone was saying about Quinto (including Nimoy himself apparently).

Still, the important thing is the writing, direction, and acting and hopefully Peck with the writers and directors/producers can make this work. I wonder why he wasn't announced at ST Las Vegas, maybe they wanted to protect him from the mass of media attention that would have centered on him, or maybe they didn't want to take spotlight away from Patrick Stewart's announcement.
