ESPN/Star Trek tie in

I'm just sitting here watching the Cubs/Brewers game on ESPN, and they just showed a shot for "future week". With Sportscenter and Baseball Tonight tying in the opening of Citi Field tomorrow night (the field of the future or something is what the VO said). The commerical had snipets of the movie spliced in with typical SC and BBT. I knew that JJ was trying to target new audiences, but this is pretty ambitious. I tried to find something on the ESPN site, but nothing in my quick search. Still, what a way to reach out, a full week on ESPN SC and BBT!

PS Sorry if this has pointed out before.

ballsy move. i've never seen a full-court press quite like this.

... which is probably part of the reason this film will be successful. JJ understands that products need to be have marketing programs. The Previous Powers That Be never understood this, and almost had this arrogant expectation that Star Trek would sell itself -- even against blockbusters like LOTR.

Whether JJ made a good movie is yet to be seen. But I'm glad to finally see somebody at the helm who understands that people will eat crap (or buy water, for that matter) if a good marketing program accompanies it.

Star Trek was all over Baseball Tonight last night as well. Talking about players whose 'future is now' or something and tying it in with star trek.

It was very cool.

JJ probably understands that, but he's not the mastermind or in charge of any of this marketing. The studio employs people to do this - and they're not the same folks who were doing it five years ago, either. The whole studio has changed around.
