Episodic Star Trek Game?

After reading an article on Kotaku, it got me wondering what if Telltale got a license from CBS/Paramount to create an episodic game of Trek. Considering the franchises they already have on board (i.e. Back to the Future), it might be possible? Also, if they did obtain the license, what kind of game would you like to see?

Hey no problem. It's an outdated thread that shouldn't be posted in anyway. I don't want to dissuade from any discussion. Just thought it might be of some interest :)

That said, I think it's definitely possible. It seems that Telltale has entered an era of licensed games. That post I made back then was made before the BTTF game was even announced, and since then they've announced BTTF and Jurassic Park, two very big franchises that are near and dear to many hearts. Not to mention, King's Quest, a game series previously belonging to a competitor's company, as Telltale is largely made up of Ex-Lucasarts employees. The episodic format Telltale is famous for would be a perfect fit for Star Trek. Considering TOS is on everyone's minds now due to the movie and a sequel coming, I think it would be smart for them to release a Star Trek game.

Well, something along the lines of TNG: A final unity would be good.
Though in contemporary terms, I think a Mass Effect Style game with a huge story and various modes to the game (such as flying the starship to specific star systems, and combating other ships - though making it more in terms of Bridge Commander, then with third person view for away missions with RPG elements, or point and click perhaps, with plenty of on-ship type activities.

That's not a bad idea, though it would be a hard task to combine all of those different aspects to make a game. Though I'd imagine it being free-form, being able to travel anywhere anytime. I envision the away-team system to be free-form exploration a bit in terms of Oblivion and Fallout style, with your team members commenting on the different things as you encounter them. Story would be told through an an epic storyline that would take you through the different gameplay elements such as ship battles, etc, either by on-screen communications or by NPCs on the planets you visit, taking you to different planets. The ship AI would react differently depending on the choices you make throughout your missions. Of course, with all this, you'd also get complete ship roaming like the Elite Force expansion pack.

Yup.
Though I doubt it would be difficult to implement all those aspects into the game.
Look at Mass Effect for example.
Adding a mode for combat simulations ala BC wouldn't be a problem since they already have a working model from that game alone.
Update/optimize the code, upgrade the graphics, and voila.

I mean, TNG: A final unity implemented various modes to the game.
Mostly it was all done via point and clicking, but if you'd be using the keyboard and mouse anyway for orientation and firing off commands, then it's not a problem.

A truly massive undertaking would for example be a Birth of the Federation style game that lets you create your own 'empire', zoom into the galactic map, assume control of ships, set up away missions, RPG elements to the game.

It would be almost like MMORPG, only in single player, but still massive.
:D

Star Trek Online plays its missions in an episode like format. Based on the posts it seems that a single player game is desired, but STO can almost be played that way if you set your preferences for it. It does seem to have a lot of the desired elements.

ST:O though is severely lacking in quality to be honest.
It's diplomatic missions have leave lots to be desired... planet-side combats are also extremely button-mashing experiences (as are some space battles).
Certain missions seem way too generic.

As it is right now, it wouldn't be able to match a pre-programmed single player campaign properly.
And besides, I personally do not like the MMO concept in the first place since I'm more focused toward single-player (besides, the prospect of paying monthly fees to play a game is repulsive).

Star Trek... Mass Effect...

Well, Mass Effect is a lovechild of Trek, B5 and Lit SF. Just surgically remove the latter two.

Or, like, travel back in time and influence history so that Bioware makes a Trek game. Yeaaah.

So I haven't posted on this forum for a while, but I recently discovered Telltale. They seem to do a remarkably good job.

I too got excited about the possibility of a new Star Trek adventure game. Or a remake of 25th Anniversary or Judgment Rites. Or Secret of Vulcan Fury.

I made a game a few years back, Star Trek: the Continuing Voyage. I didn't have much in the way of programming experience or resources, so it is lacking in many of the immersive graphical elements of newer games. But I would love to see Telltale pick up where Interplay left off.

How do we contact Telltale and show interest?

By the way, my game is still available for download at:
