Episode where we hear the computer the most?

Rear Admiral
I was in the mood for a bit of Trek Tech tonight so was looking for an episode where the computer did a lot of talking or where lots of fancy tech based tension was generated.

So my question is, which episode do you think we hear the computer most and which is your favourite heavily tech laden episode?

I don't know if this counts, but obviously in VOY:Dreadnought would be one. (Love that episode)

So my question is, which episode do you think we hear the computer most

  • Court Martial (the computer enumerates Kirk's and Spock's credentials)

  • Wolf in the Fold (Jack the Ripper possesses the Enterprise's computer for a short while; Spock orders him/it to compute pi to the last decimal place)

  • The Changeling (Nomad gets lots of screen-time; Kirk convinces it to self-destruct )

  • The Ultimate Computer (M-5 takes control of the Enterprise; Kirk convinces it to self-destruct )

  • Return of the Archons (Landru's computer enslaves the planet; Kirk convinces it to self-destruct )
Are you sensing a pattern here?

and which is your favourite heavily tech laden episode?
I don't recall any episodes that were tech-heavy off the top of my head.

I think we get to hear the computer a fair bit in TNG's Remember Me. I don't have a favourite tech-heavy episode; I'm more about the people and don't really much notice the tech.

'One' Voyager.. is alot of Computer talkage.. as Seven has no one to talk to.. so they make her talk to it.. to have dialogue in the ep..

yes? no?

I'm sensing TOS and computers dont get one, but I suppose that was just when it wasnt ...Working...

Voyager usually has a lot of technobabble I suppose, but I do like Dreadnought and I've not seen it in a while, so maybe I'll watch that tonight.

That's the one I thought of as well. I haven't seen it in a while, but I remember really liking the episode and the eeriness of everyone around Dr. Crusher just disappearing.

^ Oh that's the episode, I was trying to remember which one it was. I think I've only seen it once or twice and the name wasn't familier.

How do you rate it?

This episode was brought up in the "Cheesiest Line" thread if that is any help. I actually liked it as a Crusher-centric episode. You could really feel her frustration as she grapples with the computer's changing definition of 'reality'.

Phew, good question :). I haven't seen it in quite a while. But back in the day, it was probably one of my favorite TNG episodes.

For one, I always liked Dr. Crusher as a character somehow so a Crusher-centric episode like this was very welcome. Secondly, I loved the sci-fi concept behind this episode where reality was constantly changing but the main character was the only one to actually perceive the change.

This opened up an interesting look at what perspective and perception really mean to a human being. You never see the whole picture, and it's extremely hard to see beyond what you have come to accept as reality.

Third, I guess I'm a sucker for episodes or movies that are about somebody being the last person in the world. I think the episode did a great job of capturing that feeling which isn't that easy to achieve. Crusher's feeling of loss is palpable and connects with the very down-to-earth reality of having to deal with losing people as you grow older.

There's quite a bit of technobabble involved, of course, and Wesley tends to be his annoying self. But as you can see from above, it's not what stuck in my mind first and foremost.

I'd certainly say it's a very good episode and worth watching. Though, again, it's been a while since I last saw it, and TNG as a whole hasn't aged too well for me (though I did enjoy both BOBW and AGT when I last re-watched them).

:guffaw: I can't recall Remember Me being discussed much, if at all, here at the bbs and right now there are two threads in 2 forums talking about it!
